The air was cool, the sun was shining. If hoards of butterflies had gone flitting past in a heart shape, the mood could not be more romantic. And yet the aura of love had not yet hit this female. Vespa was lying down next to a rather ugly rock. It was the only bit of landscape she had managed to find that wasn't covered with flowers, and that was exactly why she chose to lie down next to it. If this male she was meeting didn't like it, tough. He'd just have to deal {Posts: 1}

Oh, he was dreading this. When he first agreed to come here, Octile had been powered by anger. After all, Nadir had come here without a second's thought to him. He had wanted revenge-clearly not the best motivation for starting a family. By now, the majority of his anger had faded. He was beginning to regret his decision, glancing at every possible female with a mixture of fear and uncertainty. In an attempt to appear more attractive, he had tried (and failed) to flatten the white tuft of hair on his forehead. This wasn't going to be a great day {Posts: 2}

Oh, how she was bored, bored, bored! Perhaps some Volpes may have been happy to wait among the beautiful landscape, but Vespa was not a patient girl at the best of times. She didn't want to appear desperate by actively seeking the male, but she was getting so fed up she couldn't see any other option.
Knowing only that she was looking out for a Red Volpe, she lazily dragged herself to her feet. Her bright tails swishing, she began to plod along the grass curiously. Time to find her companion

Hmm. He was beginning to wonder if he should be waiting here. Perhaps he was supposed to be looking for the female? But then, he had no idea who he was meeting nor what she looked like. The lack of facts would make searching hard indeed.
Getting to his feet, he hesitated awkwardly for a while. Glancing left and right, he shuffled his paws. Great. Now was not the time to be undecisive!

She was losing her patience when she finally spotted him. A Red male, lurking nervously under a tree. He didn't look like much, but appearances could be deceptive. He might be fun. The question was, what would he think of her?
Hello She began curiously, her green eyes focused. Others could often be frightened of her at first, perhaps within good reason. Revealing what pack she belonged to usually only increased that fear

The voice caught his attention, causing him to whip his head round to see where it came from. Spotting a female Volpe standing a few feet away, he decided this must be who he was meeting. Rather nervously, he cleared his throat.
Hi She was a curious creature, very eye-catching. Though her pelt was technically dark, the bright markings made it impossible to describe her as stealthy. They were unusual, and reminded Octile of something...
What's your name? Basic place to start, but as good as any

Hmm, so she hadn't startled him. Rather disappointing really, she loved a good game. He looked less jumpy than before, another disappointment. Slinking forward, the Warning Volpe tilted her head. Not bad...she had always been a fan of the colour red. Yes, he would do.
Smiling with a grin that showed all her teeth, the female responded to his question. Vespa Was all she felt complied to say. 'Talk less. A lot less' was her motto, or in the very least her nature

Of course-a wasp! That's what she reminded him of. Beautiful pattern, but with a sting perhaps? There was something vaguely sinister about her grin. However, Octile was known to have his 'dark' side too. Nadir often complained that he was too grumpy.
Her lack of conversation was perhaps slightly worrying, but he decided to continue anyway. If she disliked him, she could just leave. He wouldn't stop her. I'm Octile He studied her cautiously, wondering what they would say next. Conversation was hardly his strong point

Oc-tile. A name less unusual than her own, but close. A name once heard, never forgotten. Which made her wonder why she seemed to recognize it. She must have heard it before, in which case that made him one of two things. Either a Volpe in power, or an enemy of her tribe. She couldn't remember hunting him, so she guessed the former.
What pack? Words were so exhausting. If he was going to keep on forcing her to say things, she was going to make sure her responses were as short as possible. After all, she'd had a lot of practice

It was rather daunting, to have eyes so bright focused so carefully on your face. They were an almost toxic shade of green, and it was hard to stare directly at them too long. Clearly she had been thinking carefully, so it was surprising that her remark was so short.
Erm...Celestial Her voice was oddly soft, yet snappy. The softness was such that it sounded like she hadn't used it for a while. The snappiness came from her tone, short and clipped. Much like his own at times I'm the Alpha male He added pointlessly

While the addition may have seemed pointless to him, it was a welcome thing to her. It explained why she recognized him without her having to ask for more information, and without using too many words. People who jabbered on were so pointless in her eyes. She often felt intense irritation towards them and tried to get away as soon as possible.
She could visualize his pack now, living on their hill so far from her own swamp. That was mainly the reason they'd had so few disputes. You couldn't chase properly if you were exhausted before you got there. But, wait a minute. Hadn't there been an alpha female? She was sure there was one, a blue, stripy thing. Now what was her name?
Nadir? She mumbled questioningly once she felt she had remembered. Hopefully he would get the gist of what she was (not) saying

Though her eyes were hard to figure out, he was almost certain that he could see recognition flash across them. That must have been the reason she asked about his pack-a few Volpes from other packs knew him certainly, a result of friendship-building visits. But he was sure he would recognize meeting one such as her. Those cryptic eyes and crocodile smile weren't exactly features you'd forget.
He automatically flinched at the sound of his mate's name. An invisible blush spread across his cheeks and he pawed the ground embarrassedly. How could he put this without sounding petty or on the rebound? Eventually he settled for I'm mad at her He glanced upwards through his hair tuft, wondering what her verdict would be. He had never seen a scarier judge

So, they had not broken up exactly. Musing it over, Vespa wondered how she felt about that fact. She had a mate herself of course-Cabreo. But that was more a relationship of convenience than anything. She cared very little for anyone really. Loyalty to her pack was not the same thing as love.
This male probably had other ideas about his mate. No doubt he cared about her on some level if anger towards her was enough to drive him here. Personally, the fact he was taken didn't bother her. If anything it made things easier. She cared not for namb-pamby feelings of love.
She settled for a simple nod in response, not wanting to waste any more words. Anyone with half a brain should be able to figure out it was not a sign of disapproval after all. She would have left before now if that was the case

It was an uncomfortable feeling, to dangle on a piece of string. The lack of verbal response wasn't exactly the best sign. He wondered what he'd do if she did decide to leave. Crawl back home? He was too proud to like that thought. The only other option would be to hang around until he accepted his fate.
Fortunately, she nodded after a while, seemingly in acceptance. Letting out a sigh, he relaxed once more. He was still unnerved by her silence though. Why wasn't she saying anything? Trying hard not to be put off, he spoke again. What pack are you from? I don't recognize you

His jitters were rather amusing to her. She might not be as obsessed with mind games as her dear friend Lace, but she did enjoy teasing others. Oddly enough, she didn't seem to feel the same urge to hurt this male as she did with others. She'd settle for a small bit of winding up, nothing extreme.
This goal in mind, she was deliberately vague in her answering of his question. It was such a basic question anyway. She'd been expecting it from the start. Her eyes glittering, she shook her head. Let him try to figure that one out!
