For a few seconds, the smile had been a reassurance of sorts. Whatever the heck he felt, she certainly seemed to be enjoying herself at least. Okay, so it wasn't what you could call friendly. Actually, it was more unnerving with every second he looked at it...
By the time she shook her head, he was pretty certain he had worked out her game. She was toying with him, quite literally, and that was why she was smiling. Why else would she be so consistantly enigmatic? Swishing his tail nervously, Octile wasn't quite sure what to do. He had never been in a situation like this before. It had been so much easier with Nadir...
Not in a pack? He guessed, trying to sound aloof and calmer than he felt

Darn. She tried not to be too cross that he had figured it out so soon. Actually, she was beginning to feel the tinsiest bit sorry for him. Guilt was such an odd feeling for her, it was confusing. Trying to ignore it, she was now faced with the problem of speaking once more.
A tribe There was only one tribe in the area that she knew of, so it wouldn't be hard for him to guess where she came from. How would he react? Would he be alarmed? Worried? The idea of him fleeing troubled her, though she didn't know why. Volpes ran all the time and she didn't care. Heck, half the time she chased them! So why was he different?

He could tell she was a little disappointed but he decided to ignore that. He wasn't going to pretend to be an idiot just to keep her happy. At first her words had no real meaning to him. His brain processed the 'tribe' part and saw no problems. That was, until it looked again.
Wait a minute... No, she couldn't be. Could she? Rather uneasily, he gazed at the female in front of him. The Umbrage Tribe were well know for their ruthlessness, their intelligence, and, most importantly, their darkness. As far as he knew, he had never seen a member of their tribe. They hid in shadows, only revealing themselves to hunt.
Wide-eyed, Octile began to panic slightly. This must be a mistake, surely. You're not...you aren't...are you? He fumbled desperately. This wasn't just some small detail. Those Volpes were killers

Yes. It did bother him. What bothered her was why she cared whether or not it bothered him. For some reason, she felt drawn to this male. It was utterly ridiculous of course. He had a mate, she had a mate. He clearly hated the mere mention of her tribe. But he had a sort of sadness about him, slightly tinged with darkness. Not evil, nowhere near it. But she liked it.
Yes She found herself reluctant to admit. Swishing her tails, she waited patiently. If he was going to play judge, it was about time for her verdict

Oh no. It was true then. Suddenly the male felt very uncomfortable. The Umbridge Tribe were evil, everyone knew that. But this female didn't seem it. She was a little creepy and sinister, but she was too child-like to be really scary. He felt she just enjoyed playing games rather than hurting people. Was that so bad?
But then, what did he really know? He'd only been with her an hour or so. He knew nothing real, nothing solid about her. Perhaps then he should leave, go while he had the chance. So why wasn't he moving now?
Biting his lip, he gazed into those burning eyes. Time to make his decision

Curiously, she watched him. Why wasn't he doing anything? Just sitting, watching, thinking...couldn't he make a decision already? She had never been a patient person, but it was absolutely maddening in a situation like this. She felt like screaming at him to do something already but, as usual, she remined silent.
Finally, he slowly got to his feet. Keeping her eyes fixed on him, she watched as he mumbled something apologetically and turned round. Surprised by how this affected her, she closed her eyes gently. So, this was it...
Wait

No, he couldn't do it. Awkwardly, he got to his feet and shook his fur out. With a slightly guilty look, he tried his best to spare her feelings. Sorry. I can't Embarrassed by his own reaction, he turned away and began to walk. He did like her and really wanted this to work. But, when she was part of that tribe he didn't see how it could...He felt like a jerk about it though. There was a reason he was avoiding looking into those bright eyes.
At the sound of her voice, Octile froze, one paw hovering in the air. Letting it drop, he turned his head round gently. What? He questioned softly. He had to admit, he was curious. He had guessed by the way her voice croaked that she didn't speak much. Therefore, it followed she must have something important to say

She was almost as surprised at him that she had spoken. It had been a crazy impulse, not something she'd been planning. As it was, she blinked blankly for a few seconds as he glanced towards her. She had no idea what she should say, or indeed, what she wanted to say. His eyes were glued to her though, and it was clear he was expecting an answer. Best just go for it and see what came out.
Please stay She croaked, grinning the second she'd said the words. Now that she thought about it, she did want him to stay. Badly. She didn't know him well but she wanted to. Tilting her head, she continued to grin. How amusing that her mouth knew what she wanted more than she did!

Wow. He hadn't been expecting that. She had been so distant this whole time, he had gotten the impression she didn't care one way or the other. He was touched in a way. Her plea seemed genuine and it was an odd mixture of curiousity, feeling and shock that made him sit back down.
Alright. What now? He smiled softly, a little surprised at himself. It was a grin of relief and slight excitement. In an odd way, it felt right to be here. He felt he had made the right choice in staying

At the sight of him sitting down in front of her, Vespa's heart warmed a little, reminding her that it did in fact exist. She barely knew this male, and she wasn't in love with him or anything as ridiculous as that. But, she liked him and would consider him an ally. She felt that if she got to know him better, he might even become a friend.
Grinning delightedly at the thought he was staying, she tilted her head and beamed. Now? We talk She rasped, putting special emphasis on the 'we'. It was time to exercise her voice muscles. It was time to speak
