Hmmm… Maybe bringing three volpes with her was a bit of a bad idea. Three where quite a lot after all and the most she had ever taken with her before where…well, one, and that was usually Stormwing. She really must think of a knew name for him. It was obvious where the ‘wing’ part came from but ‘storm?’ He wasn’t really storm coloured at all, more sea or sky. Skywing? Seawing? Sk wing didn’t really seem to fit and Seawing just brought seaweed to mind. What about something completely different to that? Maybe ‘sky’ or ‘wing’ in a different language?

Stormwing was seething. He tried to hide it but it was so hard to stop himself just suddenly snapping at that…stupid, pathetic, inferior dog volpe! That ugly white daughter stealer! Why, if he had his way, he would rip the horrible creatures head off with his beak, and rip him to shreds with his sharp talons. And Pull out his wing feathers one by one! And cover his white pelt in blood and mud! And, and…snap all his bones to pieces! Yes, that’s would he would do…if he could. But of cause, Ryuu would never let him and neither would Sukai, and even if he did manage to even claw him a little, neither would ever forgive him, nor would any of the other volpes. Grrrr…. Magyk had this strange feeling that perhaps Sukais father didn’t like him that much… He could sort of tell from the evil looks he kept thinking he saw, and the way he seemed all tense and kept snapping his beak closed. And then of cause, there where the scorching looks Sukai kept shooting at her father when ever he looked her way. Stormwing was a very scary creature, much more fearsome then his daughter, even if it was obvious they where closely related. He was the sort of volpe no one wanted to make an enemy of, and it looked as though he had done without meaning to do. Great… (3/5 of first section)

Sukai was angry at her father, how dare he clack his beak at Magyk and give him such evil looks? She kept trying to give him looks even more venomous but he didn’t even seem to notice, he just kept glaring at Magyk. It was no surprise to her really. He thought of all other breeds of volpe, except perhaps dragon, where inferior to Griffens. She wasn’t entirely sure why, but it had something to do with the fact they didn’t lay eggs and usually had such tiny wings. That dident include Magyk though, he had the largest and most beautiful wings she had ever seen on any other breed of volpe. They where still small of cause, smaller then hers but for a normal volpe they where very large and she thought this might make it easier for Stormwing to accept she was going to have his chicks. Obviously not… (4/5 of first section)

But what language? She liked using Japanese words but it didn’t really matter as long as it sounded good. She couldn’t even remember what language she had taken Sukais name, (meaning ‘star’) from anymore. Oh well, it sounded nice, even if it was a little girly for such a majestic and dangerous looking creature as she. She was brought out of her reverie by another clack of Stormwings beak. He had been doing that a lot as they walked along. She wondered why. She could tell it was an angry sound and it didn’t take her long to guess why he might be angry. He wasn’t keen on other volpes, now was he? And he was very, very protective of his daughter, so he wouldn’t have been much pleased when he found out she was going to lay Magyks eggs…

He had been pleased when Ryuu had told him they where going to go for a walk and look for ‘interesting things’. He had wondered what these interesting things might be. Not rabbits and other pray, he had been sure. He found those very interesting but Ryuu seemed to find weird shaped rocks and shells more interesting. Then she had told him that Sukai was coming with them, he had been glad. He loved his daughter to bits, and though he wouldn’t admit it, spoilt her a bit and was over protective of her. He had been a bit standoffish with her as well, since she broke him the news. But at least going out for a walk would give them a time to heal the rift, for he could never stay angry with her for long, no matter what she did. Then Ryuu had told him Magyk was coming as well…

Magyk had also been delighted to go out with Ryuu, and Sukai too. He had been a little worried about Stormwing coming too but he had thought it would give him a chance to talk to him and win him over if he had any worries about what sort of volpe he was. As it turns out, it seemed no amount of talking to was going to change Stormwings really bad opinion of him. It was a real pity, he hated being on Stormwings bad side, and with a beak and talons as sharp as that, you wouldn’t be? But at least he was out in the open air and going somewhere new, that made up for it right? But despite the fact it was a lovely day, he had this feeling of approaching doom, most likely emanating from the charming Stormwing. He tried ignoring it but each click of his beak made him think of it again.

Ryuu had never taken her on any sort of hunt before now, and she had thought it would be a lot of fun. Hearing her Dad was coming as well dampened her mood a little, she had expected that he would lecture her about what she had don’t for the whole time they where out, and probably for ages after as well. She would have loved it if it had been just her, Ryuu and Magyk. She suspected that Ryuu had some how set up their meeting in the breeding garden, but she wasn’t sure. She had definitely been overjoyed to hear she was going to have Magyks chicks, but not as surprised as all the others had been. It would have been nice to chat with Magyk about the chicks, how many he though there would be, what their names should be, etc. She really liked Magyk, now they had got over their little misunderstanding. She had this vague feeling that her heart might be plenty big enough to love several males at once though….

Sukai’s suspicions about Ryuu setting them up was true, she had seen Sukai leave, and the furtive way in which she seemed to be making sure her father wasn’t paying attention, she had guessed where it might be that Sukai had been trying to sneak off to, and had told Magyk to go there two. She hadn’t been entirely sure if they would bump into each other at all, or if they did that they would like each other at all. She wasn’t sure what had happened but a rather soggy and muddy pair of volpes had returned together from the garden, with only the white showing through the mud and the large wings to give it away that it was Magyk, but of cause, it was hard not to recognize such a majestic creature as Sukai, even when she was covered in mud.

Despite all his fuming anger, he was still paying enough attention to see that they where now at the valley. They had been walking through the start of it for a couple of minutes before he even noticed of cause, but he had had other things on his mind. This place was rather eerie, with the harsh call of dark coloured birds you hardly ever glimpsed, the lack of light because of the towering coniferous trees on either side of the valley which blocked out the sun, and the bare rock faces that peeked through moss and twisted shrubs every now and then. Of cause Stormwing wasn’t scared, nothing scared him, except perhaps loosing his precious Sukai. Better keep an eye on her then, she could get into trouble. Again. He hoped Gaia wasn’t having as much trouble with Sukais brother as he was having with her.

Magyk looked round at the valley sides on either side of them. Despite there being plenty of room for several volpes to walk side by side with their wings outstretched, Magyk still didn’t like how enclosed it felt. He wasn’t used to it, and the way those big trees above them on either side blocked out so much light, it was just plain spooky. He wasn’t going to show he was afraid though. Here where the last volpes in the world he would want to show fear in front of. What would brave Sukai thing of him yelping at shadows? He thought he would die if he appeared a wimp in front of Stormwing, who didn’t seem in the least bit worried. And what would Ryuu think of him being scared for that matter? (1/5 of third section)

Like her father, Sukai wasn’t frightened of this place. She knew of no creature that could beat her in a fight, accept maybe at a push a human, maybe a dragon or perhaps a stronger griffin. Humans, she knew, looked after volpes and so she wouldn’t expect them to be of any danger to her. Dragons where very very rare, she had only ever heard of one and never seen it. And all the winged griffins she knew of where related to her and she could always fly out of the reach of those silly non-winged volpes. So what was there to be afraid of? As far as she was concerned, she was indestructible.

Right, Ryuu thought they where probably far enough in to start looking for things properly. She had been casting her eyes around for things for quite a while, but now she was going to try and get her volpes to help her. “Come on guys, let’s hunt for…stuff!” Not much of a rousing speech but oh well. “Tell me if you see anything odd you’ve never seen before like a strange animal. Or if you see a greavia as well. Or an oddly shaped stone. Or an egg. Or…what ever” Boy did she need to work on her speaking skills! But it seemed to have the desired effect all the same as the three volpes went off by themselves to look for things in their own separate ways.

Stormwing immediately took to the sky. Despite his impressive wing span, there was still plenty of room for him to maneuver in the valley, especially higher up where it was wider. He could have flown through a much tighter space then this, his flying and judgment of space where impeccable. Flying above them all while using his razor sharp vision to comb the valley below also allowed him time to think. But instead of calming him down, it just seemed to make him more and more wound up. How dare that inferior creature make his daughter… no he must block those thoughts out and concentrate on his search.

Magyk glanced around him, and squashing down the hint of fear he felt, padded over to one of the valley sides. There is was quite rocky and steep, with gray slate stone gathered at the bottom. He put one paw on the side and more fell away. That gave him an idea and he started knocking slate off to see if there was any more interesting stones about. After a bit he had removed all the sleet from the area just above him and was able to climb on to it. He kept doing that, getting rid of all the slate on likely looking places then climbing up there. Sometimes he flew to another bit to pear into an interesting looking crevice or shallow cave.
