The fact it was a dull day was doing nothing to help the lioness' mood. She had been skulking about in the rain for about 10 minutes now, and with her being the impatient sort, it had seemed like 10 hours. She had given up storming backwards and forwards, and was now sheltering under a large leafy bush. Sunny all year round. Yeah right! She was looking rather fierce, with her fur sticking up and matted and her teeth bared into an irritated growl. Any passers-by (of which there were few and far between) moved extra quickly past her, seemingly afraid that she might be their partner. They could only hope her partner would show up soon-with every passing minute she seemed to be getting more and more violent 1/45

Trust it to be raining the one day he came here. The Volpe padded silently through the grass, feelings of doubt and uneasiness flooding through his mind. He didn't want to be here. What good would he, a Volpe who could barely take care of a Temprus, be as a dad? The tiny creature clinging to his back didn't look much happier either. It was making a very quiet whimpering sound, eager to explain that it hated being out here. Quiet! Arconius hissed, the rain making him harsher than he usually would have been with the Temprus. It went silent almost instantaneously, knowing that you shouldn't get on the bad side of this Volpe. Ark was but a shadow through the pattering rain, and his dark coat meant he wasn't easily seen. Having no idea what kind of female he was to meet, he decided to take shelter under a leafy bush. With any luck no one would show up at all 2/45

Where was this guy? Temperance was actually starting to feel a little worried. What if she ended up waiting here all day?
Shaking her head, she snorted. So what if she did? She didn't want this guy to show up anyway! He'd probably be some smiling creep, asking her stupid questions like 'What's your home like?' and 'What kind of stuff do you like to do?'. She couldn't help wishing Denahi was here. She was getting kind of bored just waiting here, and she could always count on him to look after her.
Rolling onto her back, she blinked up at the rain as it splattered down. The fact it was getting into her eyes didn't bother her in the slightest. Neither did the fact that her fur was a matted mess. She wasn't the kind of Volpe to bother about her looks, as her ragged fringe and muddy paws displayed

To be honest, Ark had no idea what he was doing here. It had been around 3 months since he had last spoke to another Volpe, and that wasn't even a fact he was ashamed of. He preferred being on his own. Hanging around with other Volpes was always bad enough, but what if he was expected to raise the pups? There was no way that was going to be fun.
He was vaguely aware of the sound of a bush rustling nearby. Feeling only mildly curious, he looked out of instinct rather than interest. He could see the rough outline of a Volpe-female, judging by the two tails. Realizing it might be who he was supposed to meet, he wearily got to his feet and begun to walk towards the sound

Distracted by the sound, Temperance switched her glance from the sky to the ground. She could see the distinct shape of a male Volpe emerging from the shadows, rather ominously she might add. Her vision was rather foggy, and all she could make out was a dark pelt, bright paws and glowing orange eyes.
After a minute or two, she realized she was still upside-down. She flipped herself over quickly, not bothering about whether or not she appeared graceful. Slipping on the wet grass, she sat up to face him.
What? She barked defensively, mud staining her paws and muzzle

A bemused expression crossed the face of the Volpe as he watched the female in front of him. He wasn't impressed, to say the least. Despite the dreariness, he could make out the ragged outline of her messy fur, all clumpy and poofed out. It was hard to make out what colour her fur was, so soaked in mud that barely any of her original colour was visible.
When she finally spotted him, he continued to stare as she tried to scramble to her feet. Her defensive tone when she spoke was rather threatening, but Ark had met much worse so he didn't fear afraid.
Nothing He said in way of reply, sitting down. This had to be the Volpe he was here to meet

His staring made her uneasy. Why was he looking at her like that? Did she have something on her face? Realization that she was still covered in mud stopped her feeling confused and made her feel angry.
So what if I'm soaked in mud? He doesn't have to turn his nose down at me like that Annoyed by how confidently he sat down next to her, and how fearlessly he was looking into her eyes, Temperance turned her back. Fat chance she was going to talk to him now

He couldn't help feeling surprised as he watched this strange female positively glaring at him. To tell you the truth, this was making him pretty annoyed himself. He hadn't even wanted to come here in the first place, and after he'd dragged himself through the rain the girl he was supposed to meet was ignoring him?
When she turned her back, that was the last straw. Anger surging through him, he opened his mouth to omit a growl... A small whimper came from the creature sat atop his back. It was barely audible, but the message translated to Ark.
Feeling instantly guilty, he quickly relaxed. Staring at the back of the female, he sat in silence for a while. The faint pattering of rain was rather relaxing, and while he had been known to sit in silence for unimaginable amounts of time he felt it would be rude to carry on like that.
So...He quickly ran through topics in his mind What's your name?

Totally oblivious to what was going on behind her back, the next thing she heard from him was his question. A snort escaped her lips. He really wasn't that smart was he? As if she was going to reveal her name (which she loathed anyway) to someone as stuck up as him?
Turning round, she proceeded to tell him this fact. I'm not going to tell you my name. In fact, I'm not even going to talk to you, so you might as well just go back to wherever you came from now At least it was barely raining anymore. The downpour had faded to a light drizzle, which was almost kind of pleasant

The cheek of it! This meeting was already far different than Ark had expected it to be. For one thing, this female was nothing like the simpering softie with clean fur and a pretty smile he had been picturing. He had been expecting someone who would be far too keen, someone he'd have to let down gently. Not a loudmouth like her!
Alright, fine. Don't tell me anything. It doesn't really matter about your name anyhow as I don't particularly care Harsh, but he was in a harsh mood. His tail was flicking angrily, matching perfectly the dismal atmosphere But if you think I'm walking all the way back home, you can forget it. If you don't want to share my company, then you will have to be the one to leave because I'm going nowhere He sat down defiantly to demonstrate his point

Fury rose up in her throat. She hated this male. How dare he be so rude to her, then refuse to go away? Rest assured, I care even less about you She was growling now-Temperance never could keep her temper And if you think I'm going to move just because your highness commands it you can think again
The rain had stopped now, leaving only damp darkness. The dryness made Temperance feel a bit uncomfortable-the mud coating her fur was starting to dry and making her feel restricted

His resolution to avoid getting mad was just chucked out the window. Fair enough, it was one thing to growl at her when all she had done was state her mind. Another story if she was growling at him. He let out a snort as he gazed at this mud-covered female.
Your highness? That's rich coming from a Royal Ark bent down into a crouch, ignoring the whimpers from the creature clinging to his back And while I don't expect you to move I'd prefer it. Saves me from having to stare at you all day He growled his words, eyes flashing with anger. He did tend to have a terrible temper

She froze, completely stunned. Never, ever had someone talked to her like that! Occasionally she had encountered rudeness before, but whoever was challenging her usually gave in after she'd snapped something back. No Volpe had ever ignored her threatening behaviour so deliberately, not even her brother.
Stunned into silence, it was a few minutes before she swallowed doubtfully. Fine She tried to bark the words fiercely, but it was obvious she was a little shaken I'll just go then. Wouldn't want to cause you unnecessary pain Her eyes narrowing, she turned round and began to storm away

Good He thought smugly as he watched her creep away. He couldn't help grinning, pleased that he wouldn't have to deal with her anymore. Glancing up at the drizzled sky, he could see the rain had stopped. Looked like things were looking up already.
Just us now He turned to his Temprus with a smile. To his surprise, the little creature looked absolutely miserable. It's stony eyes were wide with unhappiness, and it was making a soft whimpering sound. Ark stared at it for a moment, both thoughts and memories fluttering through his mind.
Fine! It was a few minutes before he snapped, irritation evident in his voice I get your point, I was harsh The creature stopped whining, but it blinked widely at the Volpe, almost expectantly.
And I'll go apologise The Temprus squeaked, seemingly satisfied. Ark groaned inwardly, before scooping him back up and setting off to follow the female

Stupid grouchy... The weather had made Temperance rather grumpy in the first place, and her meeting with the male had done nothing to help her mood. The growing darkness made it rather hard for her to navigate, and she'd been wandering around in the wet grass for nearly 6 minutes now, getting angrier and angrier with every step.
Finally, she spotted a small cave, entrance sheltered by long grass. Deciding this would be a good place to stop (at least, until she calmed down enough to think about where she was going) the Volpe sauntered over to it.
Being slightly bigger than the average Normal, it was quite hard for her to push herself in. Since the grass was soaked in water, she was pleased to see that most of the mud had been scraped off by the time she'd forced herself in. Seating herself down, she glanced around the area. It wasn't the coziest resting place, but it would do for Temperance
