Relaxation seemed to be the theme tonight. It was a brisk evening, with the air refreshing cool and moist. It was certainly a lot colder than the last time Diego was there. Of course, that could be to do with the fact it had been day last time. Being asked to meet someone here at night might have seemed like an odd request to some, but it was obvious it didn't bother this Volpe. Even the way he lay seemed to scream confidence, his front legs spread out casually, his tail swishing calmly through the grass. He was gazing into the pool of water beside him, admiring the way the pitch-black water reflected his face. Vanity wasn't the word 1

Empty seemed the best word to describe it. Nadir thought arranging to meet here at night would make this process easier, but it blatantly wasn't going to help in the slightest. It was nice, she had to admit, not to see any other Volpes as she made her way to the place they were supposed to meet. Nice, but not nice enough to stop her regretting her decision. Her normally calm features were stretched into a scowl as she made her way through the long grass. The darkness didn't bother her in the slightest-it was oddly reassuring to see her surroundings steeped in blackness, the rough outlines of the trees guiding her. She could tell by the way the grass was growing moister that she was nearing the pool. It had been his request to meet there (whoever he was). A compromise of sorts. Nadir couldn't help snorting to herself. He must be pretty cheeky to demand a compromise! She had half a mind not to even show up 2

Where was this female? Diego wasn't the patient type and he hated waiting, especially for something like this. So far, the nerves he had felt last time hadn't made an appearance. This was mostly because his last time had been successful, so he had a kind of confident logic that this time would go equally well. He didn't know whether or not this would last though, so the sooner this female showed up, the better.
He swiveled his head round until he was gazing up. The night sky was awfully pretty here-stars like none Diego had ever seen before littered the sky. There were plenty of stars on the beach of course, but the sea meant they were never as clear as they were now. He couldn't help but be stunned slightly by their beauty. It was a rarely spiritual moment for him, and surprisingly poetic

That must be him... Nadir had made her way to the clearing and she could see a male Volpe seated in the darkness. Not quite feeling ready to meet him, she sat down on the patch of grass she was standing on. She couldn't see him that well from here. All she could make out was that his fur seemed a dark raspberry-probably an illusion created by the sky.
She was surprised to see him staring up at the sky. Was he watching the stars? She had to admit, that might be something. Nadir was extremely fond of staring at the stars-one of the many reasons she had asked to meet at night. She felt an unexpected stab of interest. Maybe she'd stick around and watch him for a while...

An odd pricking sensation shivered up Diego's spine. He had that uncanny feeling of being watched, and he hated it. Spinning round, his eyes struggled to distinguish the difference between the shapes in the dark. He was used to the dazzling brightness of the seaside, so being surrounded by trees at night did nothing to help his vision.
Eventually he could make out the fuzzy outline of a Volpe, hidden in the bushes on a small hill in front of him. He couldn't make out much-her pointed ears were visible, as were her tiny wings. It was too dark to see her fur colour though.
Instead of being intimidated like most Volpes, a shaky grin spread across Diego's face. Anyone there? He called out, his voice breaking the silence of night like a knife cutting through a cake

His words made her wince. And she'd thought she was well hidden...He must have very good hearing if he heard her from that distance. She shifted uncomfortably, unsure how to react. Should she stay silent? Or make a break for it?
Why ask? She eventually called back, her tone vaguely annoyed I know you can see me While Nadir was normally the patient sort, she was in rather a bad mood that night. Octile had found out about her meeting here, and he wasn't pleased. Being the protective sort, he had forbidden her to go. Nadir liked to make her own decisions, and a small but angry argument had broken out. She had only come here to show him he couldn't control her. She had no interest in meeting a male

Her answer surprised him slightly. He had expected her to tell him her name, or show herself at least. His tail flicked from side to side thoughtfully. He could tell by her tone and her choice of words she wasn't entirely thrilled about this arrangement. No matter-he was sure he could change her mind.
Very well. Am I allowed to see you properly? Or are you playing hard to get? It was odd talking when you didn't know exactly where you were talking to. While his eyes were slowly adjusting to the light (or lack of it) he still couldn't see much more than a pair of ears

Her face twitched in slight amusement at his comment. He seemed cheeky, just like she had predicted. Nadir was good at predictions. Growing up as leader of the Celestial pack meant you had to be.
That would be the second choice Her tails swished along the grass and her ears twitched. His reactions were almost amusing to her. She could tell by his confident tone that he wasn't used to girls not liking him. Perhaps she could enlighten him and show him it wasn't all about flirting. At least he hadn't seen her yet. She still had the upper field at the moment

Ouch. So she wasn't going to play along then? Oh well, Diego could live with that. He got to his feet, had a quick shake then stepped forward. He hesitated, pondering about what he should do. Should he go up the hill anyway, try and see her? Or should he just stay put?
Alright then A little reluctantly, Diego remained standing in his spot If I can't see your face can I at least know your name? This female was beginning to pose a bit of a challenge. It was going to be so much harder to flirt without using his stunning good looks. Harder, but not impossible

Phew. At least he wasn't ambushing her. Nadir kept her amber eyes fixed firmly on the Volpe standing a few metres away, making sure he didn't move.
My name? For some reason she hesitated. She hadn't been planning on telling this male anything about herself. Still, there was no harm in revealing a name was there? It's Nadir
The Volpe was actually fond of her name. While it might not be the prettiest, she loved its meaning and its link with the stars. Several members of her pack had commented on it, and she was proud to be called it. If this Volpe sneered at it she might just rip him apart

Nadir? At last, one piece of information. The name was unusual, and he couldn't help thinking it sounded familiar. As he realized what it was, Diego smiled to himself. Maybe this was a chance to show off his knowledge?
Nadir? That's to do with astrology isn't it? Involving the Immum coeli and angles, or something like that He really hoped he'd got that right. He knew he'd sound like an idiot otherwise. Diego might not be the brightest tool in the shed, but he was witty and he hated appearing stupid to anyone. Least of all someone he was trying to impress

Wow. This boy knew his stuff. She flicked her tails thoughtfully. She was impressed he knew the origin of her name, but then again maybe he had just guessed. It didn't really prove much about his personality. Time to dig a little deeper.
I'm impressed No point lying You interested in astrology? Or just very knowledgeable about pub-quiz facts? She was aware her comment about pub-quizzes may be a little harsh, but it might cut him down a size or two. She had a feeling he wasn't used to dealing with people who didn't idolize him

She did seem fond of those barbed little comments, didn't she? As far as he could tell, she was rather cheeky and he liked that. She wasn't like most of the other females he'd met. She was interesting.
I wouldn't say interested. I know the basic stuff, but I don't spend hours gazing at the stars He was going for the honest approach. After all, she was bound to be a star nut. There was no way he could bluff his way through his entire conversation with her Aren't you interested in knowing my name?

Ha, she knew it. Pub-quiz. She had to admit, she was slightly disappointed. She had been looking forward to having a chat about the stars. Still, she always had Octile for that. A mischievous grin spread across her face as a thought came into her head.
Are you sure about that? You seemed pretty interested in the stars before. I saw you looking at them She was almost laughing. She was teasing him now! Your name? I'm not bothered. You can tell me if you like though

Whoops. Busted. Diego was surprised to feel a faint blush creep up on his cheeks. He wasn't sure he had ever blushed before, let alone because of something a female had said to him.
Well, you know, I was bored He struggled to make himself sound casual. He knew he was just coming across as sheepish Plus, there's a lot more stars out here than I'm used to. They are kinda dazzling He sat awkwardly silent for a moment or two, feeling embarrassed. This was worse than when he first saw Lucinda here.
Doesn't mean I'm a star swot though. I bet you know all their names His tone was light, teasing, as he rushed to redeem himself. Didn't want to come across as soft
