Gaia let out a screech of pure happiness as she felt the wind rise beneath her wings. She felt like she was ready to take care of a pup now, and so was travling as swiftly as she could towards the breeding gardens. She didn't yet know who the father of her pups would be, or even if a male would come seeking a mate, but she knew that this seemed like the right thing to do.

If there were no males there, then she would come back tomorrow, and every day thereafter until she found one. As the gates of the breeding garden passed far below her, she scanned the ground for a good spot to land.

A few minutes in, she found a spot of ground that seemed to be trampled flat by paw prints already. This looked like a good place to her. She gave one more flap, and then tilted her body downwards, flapping once or twice, and then landing on the snow, first her back legs, then her great talons.

She was pleased to discover that the ground held under her weight. Being half bird, she really hated the winter and the snow, and didn't like the feel of snow around her talons.

Now all she had to do was wait. She fluffed up her feathers to give her more warmth, and turned her gaze back towards the barly visible breeding gate. If any males were coming here today, that's the direction they would be coming from.

He heard the light 'thud' of paws hitting the earth and retraced his steps back round the bush he had just been past. And there stud his one true dream. I gorgeous female griffen. He had never seen another of his type in the real world, only dreams and she was far more beautiful then he could have ever imagined. Those brown muds that thought of themselves as griffens were nothing, absalutly nothing comapared to her. he was in love already.

A presence seemed to enter Gaia's mind, urging her to turn around, that she was looking the wrong way. She obeyed, and let out a hlaf-bark, half eagle sceech of surprise as she layed eyes on Storm Wing. Her owner had specifically told her over and over again that she was, as far as she knew, the only one of her kind. If she wanted to breed, she would have to seek out one of those dog-like other Volpe breeds and manage to make do with them.

But Gaia wasn't a dog, she didn't even really concider herself a Volpe. She was a bird, a beautiful griffen who happened to have the back legs and ears of a Volpe, but that was it. Her heart had soared at the though of pups, but she had imagined little half Volpe pups with floating wings who would never be able to fly high up into the air with her.

She stood still as a statue, and examined him from ears to tail. The beautiful blue of his feathers reminded her of sky which she loved so much, and his beautiful eyes seemed to her like the darkest of sappires. Even his lovely front legs, light yellow, reminded her of the sun.

He was like the sky made flesh, everything she loved about life combined into this one package of greatness. She felt her heart swell more than it could ever have done for a normal Volpe, and she walked over slowly, her mismatched sets of legs leaving both claw and paw marks in the snow.

"Hello." She said in a voice like silver bells ringing. "I'm Gaia, what's your name?"

Her pelt was like the darkest night, pitch black and scatterd with stars. Everything about her was beautiful from the blus on her elgs to the ends of her gray tipped wings. She was the night incarnate exept far more lovely then it could ever hope to be. His heart swelled with longing and he cursed his shallowness. It was what was inside that matterd, right? But she was so gorgeous...
"My name?" he said dreamly. "Ur..im called Stromwing. At the moment. Its not a final name though, just a nickname I have for now."

Gaia hardly even heard his answer. He was talking to her, this male who she had almost dismissed as her imagination, so perfect did he look, was actually talking to her. "Stormwing." She finally said, rolling the word around in her mouth. It suddenly sounded so much better than the name that her owner had given her.

Gaia meant earth or something like that in ancient greek, the first goddess maybe. But really, the name couldn't be further from her true nature. She loved the air far more than the ground, and she certainly didn't feel like a goddess, although this was clearly a god before her.

"I'm Gaia." She finally said, just remembering that she hadn't yet told him her name.

"Gaia..." he murmered to himself. Thats a pretty name. He couldent think what else to say. he wanted to throw himself down at her clawed paws and beg her to love him. No, he musnt do that. What if she already had a mate? That made him suddenly feel more jelous then he had ever felt in his life. He would rip them limb from limb! He would show him that no fox could stand up toa true blooded griffen such as him. But what if the male was another griffen that was far more hansomn then he was? But what... maybe she had no mate at all.
"So... Who are you here to meet?" he asked casuly as though it did not matter all that much to him.

She couldn't take her eyes off of the beautiful deep blue of his own, and so saw them turn to anger. She didn't know that the anger wasn't directed towards her, but she felt the need to step back a step anyways, a need that she surpressed. After all, he might not be mad at her at all, hopefully.

Or... maybe he was. Perhaps this great winged creature gaurded the garden, to make sure that only those that were breeding came here? She suddenly felt very stupid for coming on her own. "No one." She said softly. "I was hoping that I could find someone." She did look away then, waiting for this amazing creature to drive her away from this seemingly perfect place.

Emidiatly he snapped and threw all self restraint out of the window (though this being a garden there wasnt any window to throw it through)
he diived to her feet and looked up at her imploringly. "So youve got no mate? No one speciel youve been set up to meet?"
He felt as though his hole life hung on what ever answer she gave him. Please say there was no one else!

She did step back then as he suddenly dived towards her, expecting to feel the sharp lash of his talons as he told her that she would have to leave then. It never came. Instead this god-like creature was on the ground looking up at her as though she were the god!

"I... what?" She said, utterly confused at how nature seemed to have reversed itself. This amazing creature wanted to have pups with her? But why? She didn't really think that she was much to look at. Well, obiously better than those dog-like creatures she was kept with, but certainly not worthy of this magnificent being.

"No." She said finally, and then, as self confidence came over her in a wave, she fluffed out her feathers proudly and flapped her wings. "Do you?"

"No!" He exclaimed. "I dont. Ive never met any one before who was..right" A pathetic statment but his mind dident seem to be working properly and he was struggling to talk at all.
"And since ive got no one in perticluler to meet. And youve got no one you need to meet either..."He trailed off meaningly. Did she get what he meant? Would she say yes? She had to, or he would die of grief or mourn her disition forever.

She smiled widely and took a graceful step forwards. "Are you suggesting that perhaps, in some strange way, we came here to meet each other?" She asked, her beautiful voice seeming to get louder and more excited at the thought. "Won't our owners be surprised when we come back with chicks!" She whispers excitedly.

Of course, it takes her till now to realize that she really doens't know this male at all, and somehow, she wants to. The chicks will be part of him as well. "So..." She says, suddenly shy. "What's your owner like?"

Chicks! She wanted chicks! And with him! he felt as though this was thehappiest he had ever been in his life.
Her voice was so beautiful...more gentle then her fierce girffen apearence would lead you to belive but Stormwing thought it fitted her perfectly.
"My owner..." he thought for a bit "Would beover joyed to know I had found a mate. She wouldent mind who it was at all as long as I was happy. Shes nice and lets us go off when we want but loves to groom us and stroke us as well"

Gaia nodded at his words. Her owner was a lot like that too. "Yes." She said. "My owner lets me roam where I will, but she specifically told me that if I was to ever find a mate, it would be among those dogs that call themselves Volpes. She said that I was the only griffin Volpe with wings in the world, and I believed her." Her voic turned playful. "Perhaps she was only trying to keep me from you."

"I thought I was the only one as well!" he exclaimed, it made him feel a lot less stupid to know she had to and it wasnt just him.
"Well if so shes too late" stormwing laughed. "Looks like weve gone and found each other anyway. Hay. i wonder if there are any others apart from us? I mean if there are two there could be more. And chances are there will be some time soon" He hoped she knew what he ment by that last comment but dident feel offended by it in any way.

She smiled slightly, immideatly catching the hidden meaning under his words, and being flattered by them. She still hadn't quite gotten around to believing that he actually wanted to have chicks with her. It felt like a dream, and any moment she would wake up and realize that she was the only one of her speices left. But the garden seemed too real to be a dream. She could smell the snow and feel it blowing through her feathers. If she had been dreaming of the perfect mate, she would have made the setting much prettier than all this snow.

Realizing that she had zoned out from the conversation, she focased her eyes back on him. "Yes." She said, flapping her wings a few times in happiness. "There will be more griffens soon."
