Uh oh. This couldn't be good. Fortunately, he seemed to have bought her usual lie of her own psychic ability. Unfortunately, he was expressing an interest in it now, something she didn't want to happen. If he kept on asking questions about it, it was only a matter of time before the truth came out.
Oh, you know. Nothing big or significant. Just things like weather Her voice skipped breezily on the words like they were no big deal at all. Didi was an expert actress when she wanted to be. She knew exactly what to do and say to manipulate people into doing what she wanted, and she knew exactly how to cover her tracks when needed too. Now was definitely a covering-tracks moment.
I'd rather hear more about your predictions to be honest She smiled invitingly, eager to change the subject

A frown crossed his face. He was annoyed by her quick dismissal-he'd been looking forward to listening about her powers. Instead he'd been told to do what everyone else told him to do-talk about his own visions. Sighing, he decided he might as well tell her what she wanted.
Well, it's not so much 'seeing' into the future. More like reading, interpreting the patterns in the stars. Stars have a lot to say, if you bother to listen He wasn't too sure how much Didi was actually taking in. She didn't seem like the philosophical kind. He almost pitied her in a way really, for being so self-obsessed

Thankfully, no more questions were asked. He'd taken the bait. Relaxing slightly, Didi stretched out until she was lying on the ground. The grass was damp with dew, and it felt cool against her belly. The whole atmosphere was pleasant, a chilly breeze blowing every so often, making it refreshing. The sky was filled with stars, fitting in beautifully with their chosen topic of conversation.
That doesn't surprise me She answered softly, gazing up at the velvety dark I never did buy that whole 'balls of gas' thing As if stars could be so scientific! Some people were idiots, that was for sure

His silvery ears pricked at this. Wow, perhaps he had judged her too soon. That had almost sounded thoughtful. Curiousity poked into Sabian's mind, and he felt the need to quiz her further.
Really? He tilted his head with interest What do you believe stars are then? He was always eager to debate science and 'magic', if there was such a thing. The Royal had always been very logically-minded, but he was torn when it came to stars. On one hand, the explanation given by science made a lot of sense. On the other hand, the feeling Sabian got when he looked at stars was almost mystical in a sense. Would it be so hard for him to believe stars really were things of magic?

Didi once more found herself blushing. This annoyed her greatly-she wasn't the blushing sort! She never got embarrassed, and yet somehow this brute had made her blush more times than she wished to count tonight. Thank goodness her dark complexion hid it, or else she'd have really been in trouble.
Well... She hesitated. She hadn't intended on sharing her theory with anyone. Apart from herself, Tobias was the only one who knew what she thought. That was no surprise though; she had always been able to tell Tobias anything, no matter how embarrassing.
I kinda thought that stars might be spirits or something. You know, like when Volpes die they go up into the sky? That could be why you-we, can read the future in stars. It could be messages left from our ancestors She paused when she finished, glancing up nervously at the Royal. What would he think?

Still tilting his head, Sabian reflected on her words. Her theory was slightly childish, but it could make sense in a way. It was rather sweet really-too sweet to mock, even if he had felt the need to.
He sat in silence for the next few minutes, then realized she was waiting for a reply. She looked quite nervous, and the Royal noticed she was chewing on her lip. This surprised him. Did his opinion really matter so much to her? Why on Earth should it?
It's interesting He nodded, his tone appreciative Not the most logical of theories, but it has it's charm. Could be plausible This was supposed to praise, although it was thinly conveyed. Hopefully she'd pick up on it's meaning

Phew, at least he hadn't laughed at her. She respected his opinion so much-heck, everyone in the Celestial Pack did. The fact that he was almost complimenting her ideas was good enough for her.
Sensing an opportunity, Didi lowered her eyelashes flirtatiously. Well, thanks She smiled, flashing her teeth which looked dazzlingly white compared to her dark pelt. They sat in silence for a few minutes, but unlike the last time it was more comfortable.
So She broke the silence at last, still wearing a small smile How come you came here? Not getting broody are you?

He'd done the right thing by humouring her. She'd grinned so brightly he was expecting the grass around her to be lit up. A squirmy, uneasy feeling rested in the pit of his stomach. She was quite pretty really, and it made him feel rather guilty. After all, it was nothing personal against her. He just didn't want to be here.
Any pity vanished with her next statement. He couldn't help coughing in surprise. Broody? Him? Clearly she didn't know him very well. Fear not He quickly assured her, his tone plain. He was about to say that Nadir sent him, but he wasn't sure how well that would go down with her. Instead he wrinkled his nose, and went for Pups aren't really my cup of tea

Really? She couldn't deny it, she was surprised. Why was he here if he didn't like pups? Granted, she wasn't entirely sure she wanted pups herself. At least, she wasn't sure she'd be able to look after them. But she adored pups. They were just so cute and fluffy! How could anyone not love them?
I'd quite like pups. If I could be a good enough mother She'd thought often about what it would be like to have puppies chasing after you, wanting you to look after them. It sounded nice actually What's wrong with puppies? She frowned, her curiousity getting the better of her. She couldn't help but wonder why he didn't want them

Judging by her apparent surprise, she really didn't know him well. Nothing's wrong with them Sabian squirmed slightly. This was getting uncomfortable It's just...Well, they're yappy. And needy. And you always have to give them what they want He had about a hundred more things he could add, if he had felt so inclined to.
I don't really see why anyone wants them to be honest Logically, he knew pups were an important part of the system, needed in order to survive. He knew all about that, and understood that. It was just when emotions and caring were involved he drew a blank

She couldn't help laughing at his last statement. She just managed to stop herself before she did an unladylike snorty laugh, instead switching to a pretty giggle. This male was really serious! How could he not see the value of pups?
Volpes want them because they're adorable. Imagine, a little Volpe to love you forever who you get to care for and mold in your own way How could he not see the wonderfulness of that? Didi watched as his expression remained neutral. Sighing, she shook her head.
You'll feel differently when you have your own pups

While she probably thought of her laugh as cute, he found it slightly irritating. His ears flicked back in amusement at her last comment. He doubted his feelings towards pups would ever change. Still, he might as well humour her.
Maybe He was eager to change the subject now, although he wasn't sure what to change it to. He already knew about her pack of course, because he was part of it as well. His tail swished as he thought. What could they talk about?

Sensing she was making him uncomfortable, Didi went to change the subject. After all, when you were flirting with a guy you had to make him feel comfortable, unless you were teasing.
So, why don't you tell me about your family? You just kinda appeared in our pack one day. Not that I'm complaining She flicked back her fur, grinning. She was kinda curious about his life before the pack. It seemed like no one knew anything much about him

His family? Great. Hopefully she wouldn't go all psychological on him. In his opinion, psychologists were all part psycho. I'm not close with my family He began to explain, letting his hair fall forward. He only did that when he found a conversation boring or irritating. This one happened to fall into the latter.
It's not that they're not nice Volpes. I just don't know them very well It was quite strange, if you thought about it, not to know your own parents. It had never bothered Sabian too much though. He didn't need family-heck, he didn't need anyone! All he'd ever really wanted was to be left alone, to do what he liked in life. That would suit him just fine

Her silver eyes glittered in surprise, but not in the same kind of surprise that other people might have shown at Sabian's comment. Really? Great! She broke out into a happy grin, then blushed Well, not great that you don't know your family. What I mean is, I don't know mine too well either. Actually, I don't know them at all
It was nice to find someone who didn't know his past, like she didn't know hers. Volpes often reacted with sympathy or confusion when she said she didn't know her parents. To be honest, Didi never felt like she was missing out. She had her pack for family, and plenty enough people fawned over her. It would be nice if she had at least a name, but she was happy the way things were
