It was night time he had chosen to visit this place. Really, he would have preferred not to have come at all. It was a waste of time in his opinion. What did he want with pups? He was busy enough as it was without adding a couple of small, yappy furballs to the mix. Sighing, he gazed up at the beautiful sky above him. What more did he need, other than the stars? Stars were always beautiful, and they never wanted anything from you in return for gazing at their beauty. Sabian hated how females always seemed to want him to constantly spend time with them. Didn't they understand how busy he was? It was hard work trying to receive prophecies, let alone trying to understand them once he had got them. They weren't always as simple as 'Go do this to prevent this happening'. Most of them were like riddles, complicated and time consuming. Still looking up at the sky, Sabian began to grow impatient. Hopefully this female would never turn up. Then he could just go back to what he did best-studying the stars 1/45

The female sauntered over the field, the darkness failing to hinder her. She was used to being out at night-heck, she couldn't remember the last time she was awake during the day. Despite her familiarity with this time, she hadn't been the one to decide it. Apparently the male had insisted that they meet at night. Rather pushy of him in Didi's opinion, but she would reserve judgment for now. She guessed it was up to her to locate the male. She doubted he would spot her, so expertly did her coat blend into the shadows. If one had looked closely, they might have seen the small sparkles glittering on her coat. She was quite a pretty Volpe, a fact she knew and loved to flaunt. In her mind at least, everyone who saw her loved her, either for her beauty or her personality (which was dazzling of course) Due to this self-made opinion, she felt no nerves. Actually, she was sort of excited. It would be fun to do some flirting and play with some poor fool's heart 2/45

Nerves were something the male neglected to feel also. He was fairly popular with females himself, a fact he knew yet despised. Most females he knew annoyed him. They batted their eyelashes, made stupid jokes and generally annoyed the hell out of him. He wasn't looking forward to this visit. In this place he couldn't brush someone off. He was stuck having to make conversation with them, at least for a while.
Suddenly, something caught the corner of his eye. Flipping his fringe out of the way, his keen eyes peered closer. He could see the vague outline of a Volpe, the result of years spent outside at night. He couldn't make out much detail-this must mean the Volpe had a dark pelt.
Resigning to the fact his fate was coming soon, Sabian sighed and turned in the direction of the shadow. I can see you He muttered bluntly. Had he been in a better mood, or a different kind of Volpe, this sentence might have been said in a creepy, serial-killer sort of way. As it was, he said it blankly and quickly. No point beating around the bush.

The voice made her jump. So she was closer to the male than she thought. Spinning round, she saw the shadowed figure of a Royal Volpe, seated a few metres away. Didi froze at the sight of him. Oh no!
She had been looking forward to it, until this moment. Why had she been paired with Sabian? Any other Volpe and she could have breezed in, charming him with clever sentences and confident smiles. But not Sabian!
To be blunt, Didi had a crush on the Royal. Actually, she had rather a large crush, the kind which made it impossible for her to talk to him without blushing. Worse still, he had never spent more than two minutes talking to her, despite her attempts to draw his attention.
Sabian? She called out, after clearing her throat to make her voice sound more feminine. On second thoughts, this could be her big chance. She was basically stuck in the dark with him for the next hour or so. It sounded like one of her daydreams, not some sort of nightmare

The thought that the female already knew his name made him freeze for a second. Mad, childish thoughts of creepy stalkers danced through his head...until he realized he recognized the voice.
It took him a few minutes to place it, though he was sure it was one of the females in his pack. Shifting through his memories of giggling girls, he tried to place the voice with one of them. Eventually, the image of a Starlight Volpe popped into his head. Yes, that was her! But what was her name?
Didi? He called back uncertainly, hoping he had got it right. Apart from a name and a voice, he couldn't think of anything that disassociated her from the rest of the girls. Except maybe an annoying laugh...

Her heart beat excitedly. He knew her name! She didn't think he had a clue who she was. Proudly, she strutted forward until she stood a few feet away from him. The stars allowed her to see better now, and she could make out the gorgeous outline of his markings and the shape of his hair. She adored his hair. All floppy and so cute when it hung over his eyes...
Fancy seeing you here She purred softly, a warm grin breaking across her face. This was brilliant! She couldn't wait to boast to her friends. She knew they all had a crush on Sabian too, and she knew how jealous they'd be...

This was awful. Or at least, it was bound to be. Sabian didn't know much about his little 'band of followers', but what he did know either annoyed him or didn't really matter. Why so many females had chosen him as the object of their affections was beyond him. Really, in his opinion it was a poor choice on their behalf. He was uncaring, often downright rude, and he barely paid any of them attention. Unfortunately, they seemed unalterably loyal, as this female's flirtatious tone was proving.
Yes He replied simply, feeling very uncomfortable. His tail flicked around as he tried to think of what to say to break the awful silence. He would murder Nadir for doing this to him! If she had had to set him up, couldn't it have been with a sensible, interesting female? Instead he was stuck with this giggling girl

This was brilliant! Still smiling, Didi sat herself down on the grass next to him. The silence didn't faze her, nor did his reluctant behaviour. In fact, she barely noticed either. She had always been taught to focus on her goal, no matter what that goal might be. She had certainly taken the advice to heart.
Lifting her head up gracefully, her silver eyes scanned the sky. No wonder you chose to come here at night She sighed softly It's so beautiful Didi turned and blinked expectantly at Sabian. She had left a perfect space for him to compliment her. The Volpe was so used to getting compliments, it would have been unheard of for someone not to give her one

Her comment surprised him, although really it shouldn't. Obviously she was bound to love stars-after all, she was part of the Celestial Pack, wasn't she?
Yes, stars are beautiful He agreed, lost for a moment in the brightness and beauty of the night sky. It was so vast and empty...How could such a silent place hold so many secrets?
As his gaze returned down to eye level, he couldn't help noticing how alike her pelt was to the sky. Obviously the reason she had brought up the subject-she was expecting a compliment. Sabian's mouth opened; then he hesitated. He supposed she was beautiful really-her pelt was a dark shade of ebony, and the glowing markings shone brilliantly against it. Her silver eyes were unusual and pretty, like two mysterious metallic pools. She was gorgeous...and yet he couldn't bring himself to tell her this. Not yet anyway.
But beauty can be misleading He finished awkwardly, lowering his head so his fringe fell over one eye

A frown crossed her normally-uncreased features, disguising some of her beauty for a few minutes. 'Beauty can be misleading'-what was that supposed to mean? And where was her compliment?
If it had been any other guy, Didi would have been annoyed by now. Instead, she reminded herself who she was sitting with-Sabian. There was no way she could mess this up for herself. Straightening out her face, she tilted her head in a way that she knew was cute from past experiences.
What do you mean? She questioned softly, trying to look as appealing as possible. She blinked her eyes a couple of extra times, just to be on the safe side. She was rather proud of her eyelashes, and liked how feminine they made her eyes look

He should have known she wouldn't understand him. While beautiful, she didn't really seem that bright. Sabian never said anything out loud, but in his head he scoffed those who were what you'd call 'ditzy'. He didn't notice any of her preening, since his eyes were fixed firmly on the ground in front of him.
Well He began logically Beauty kinda makes you think that the person who has it must be nice. But obviously, that's not always the case He lifted his head and gazed at her, looking slightly amused. She looked quite shocked, before slipping into a 'sweet' pose.
Of course, people can be beautiful and kind as well He added I just don't think of beauty as an accurate measure of someone's personality

Ha! She couldn't believe what she was hearing! Beauty not an accurate measure? Surely it was the most important measure. After all, she herself was beautiful. Sabian was handsome. What else mattered?
I guess you're right She smiled simply. After all, she wasn't going to get anywhere by just disagreeing with him Mind you, that shouldn't surprise me. After all, you're the guy who can read the future. You should pretty much always be right

Ah, there it was. He was wondering how long it would be before his little 'gift' came up. It was one of the reasons he was always so busy. He constantly had to keep Nadir informed about what the stars said was going to happen, so if anything major popped up it could be dealt with. He guessed that his gift for Divination was one of the reasons he was so popular with the females. After all, it was pretty rare.
Something clicked suddenly in Sabian's mind, some memory. He could remember briefly a conversation with Nadir where she was talking to him about Didi. She had mentioned her having a gift as well...not as strong as his, but it was apparently there.
I'm not the only one He smiled slightly, a friendly but closed mouth smile I believe you have certain gifts when it comes to predictions?

The Starlight felt her fur flush hot. So he'd heard about that. Panic flooded through her mind. It was bad enough trying to make up legitimate predictions to everyone else in the pack. How was she supposed to lie convincingly to a guy who could see the future himself?
For one brief, surprising moment, Didi found herself wishing she was with Tobias. She never had to lie to him. He had never once questioned about her predictions, and therefore she'd never felt the need to share them with him. She never felt as relaxed as she did around him. It was one of the reasons he meant so much to her.
Well, I wouldn't say I'm as skilled as you She smiled lightly, trying to sound confident But yes, I do have a small level of psychic ability when it comes to stargazing She kept her gaze locked on his azure eyes. Hopefully he'd buy it. If he didn't, she was doomed

Oddly enough, this news pleased him. Sabian had never encountered anyone with a gift like his before. The thought of discussing the complications and perks of a psychic ability with someone who really could understand was strangely comforting.
Nadir doesn't seem to consult you as much as she does me It may have sounded like an insult, but the Royal only meant it as a fact What kind of things can you predict? Mostly Sabian picked up trivial things-what kind of mood Octile would be in that day, whether or not his stalkers would travel in pairs etc. Occasionally he got something big, such as news of another pack moving or a new Volpe's arrival foretold. If that happened he knew he had to report to Nadir immediately
