Once more she found herself shepherded to this beautiful place. This time however, it was of her own choosing. It was somewhat surprising that she came here, and that was reflected in her delicate steps. She had been sure that the last time would indeed be her last. After all, she was no stranger to pups. She had had six (six!) and while she adored them all, she was sure that they would be enough to quell her maternal instinct. Trouble was, she'd been wrong. All her life Nadir had had the urge to look after others. At first her pack had kept her satisfied, but then the want for pups came. Then the pups came and she was happy once more. But now, all her children were grown up. They didn't need her (one even had pups of her own!) So she had come here once more, to fufill the role she enjoyed so much. She had come here to be a mother {1}

This was not okay! His three tails furiously wagging, disapproving eyes scanned the area around him. Sure, this place looked nice. But what was beauty without your best friend to appreciate it with you? He knew Lavit would have loved it here, and that knowledge made the whole experience even worse. She wasn't here, and that was the only thought he could focus on as he paraded the gardens. He blamed Sandy for this. It was entirely her fault he was here after all. She hadn't told him exactly where they were going. He knew she meant well, but shoving him in here was not the right way to go! He had half-wondered if it was Lavit he was meeting here which is why he had not left immediately (Only to verify the fact. He had no interest in having pups with her, none at all) In his curiousity he had wandered around, and now he was lost with no exit in sight. Fantastic! {2}

She had not been walking for long when suddenly she heard an anguished cry. A frown creased her normally-softened face and she turned her head curiously. Such a desperate and frustrated noise didn't belong in a place like this! The sounds usually consisted only of birdsong and the happy chatter of Volpes in love.
Making up her mind, Nadir swung her body round and padded forward a few steps. She was rather worried about what she might find, but if she didn't investigate she knew she would regret it. Ears pricked cautiously, she called out in her best alpha voice. Hello? Are you okay? Not receiving an answer, she stumbled forward again and pushed through several plants. It was only when she crashed into something that she stopped, her eyes wide with alarm. Aah!

Never one to hold in his emotions, Les had been letting loose with a self-pitying howl when he found himself cut short. An unfamiliar female voice had interrupted him, inquiring some pointless question. Irritated by this event, he deliberately avoided answering it. Instead he lifted his head and prepared to continue his ballad...
Aah! The second interruption caught him off guard, and he was swiftly knocked off his feet. Rolling a few metres away, he scrambled to his feet the second he was able to. Green eyes narrowed in fury, he growled fiercely at the female who had so rudely ended his complaining.
What do you think you're doing? He demanded, staring at the blue creature who was blinking bewilderingly before him. Something in the back of his mind seemed to recognize her, but he dismissed it. Better to deal with the matter at hand first

Tumbling across the ground, Nadir tried her best to make sense of the jumble of paws and tails. Untangling herself, she gazed at the thing she had crashed into with an apologetic look. It was a male Volpe with brightly patterned fur, looking at her rather angrily. For a moment she found herself fascinated by his coat. It was perfectly symmetrical, sliced down the middle in two bands of colour. The particular colours had a festive feel, and she fancied she had seen him before.
She had been all ready to be apologetic, but his harsh tone annoyed her. It was pretty clear it had been an accident after all. There was no need to be so hostile. Rather curtly, she replied. I'm sorry. It was an accident you know Shaking herself over, she fixed her amber eyes on him. She expected an apology in return, especially for his rude behaviour

No matter how long she waited, no such apology was going to come. Les had watched as she stared at him, and he felt momentarily distracted. To have such a focused pair of eyes on you, no matter how gentle was always unnerving. And these eyes were particularly noticeable, a bright orangey colour that suggested warmth. Apart from her wings, the rest of her looked icy cold, her fur dyed various shades of blue. Once more that feeling of recognition struck him, and this time he acted a bit more warily.
Good. Glad to hear it His tone was still sulky, though not as angry as before. It wasn't easy for someone like him to let go. He thought it was probably best if he backed down, but he missed Lavit terribly and nothing was going to distract him from that fact. Not even those lovely amber eyes that were staring so intently at him

If her attention had been entirely focused on his atttiude, she might have left in disgust by then. His whole 'sulky' mood was hardly the most attractive quality after all. As it was, she was paying more attention to his familiarity. After a few minutes of looking at him, she realized where it was she knew him from.
You! You're from Diego's pack right? She blushed slightly as she recalled the confident male, remembering how determindly he had flirted with her. The childish, slumped Volpe in front of her couldn't have been more different, and yet she knew he was from there I mean, I know it's not his pack. But you do come from there, yes? She swished her tails idly, awaiting his answer

What with the telling off she'd given him before, he hadn't been expecting her to attempt to start up a conversation with him. But that's what she was apparently trying to do, so he relaxed slightly and regarded her with a wary eye. So the feeling before had been relevant. It wasn't surprising that she knew Diego (every female seemed to know Diego) but the fact she recognized him must mean she visited his pack often.
Yes, I am He admitted unwillingly. He was distracted by her moving tails, and that's when he first noticed it. Mouth agape, a look of surprise filled his face Wait a minute-you have three tails!

Alright, she could tell he was rather uncomfortable about being here. The howling she'd heard before and his general demeanour told her that. But did he have to be so outright rude? She flushed a soft shade of red and quickly curled her tails behind her back, feeling self-conscious that they had been pointed out so abruptly. Lowering her gaze, she replied in a half-angry, half-embarrassed tone.
Yes, as a matter of fact I have. Most people have enough manners not to point that out though Her wings drooping, she felt crushed. That was one way people really got to her, by commenting on her 'abnormality'. In fact, it bothered her so much that she rose to her feet, ready to turn and go...
And that's when she spotted his third tail. Stunned, she glanced at him with confusion. But...so do you!

To his surprise, he felt a stab of guilt when she acted so upset. He hadn't meant to make her uncomfortable, especially not about something as ridiculous as a third tail. As if to compensate, he displayed his three tails where she could see them. Trying for once to apologize, he began.
Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. It's just that you rarely see someone who has three tails so I was mildly surprised Actually, now he thought about it Lavit was the only other Volpe he had met with three tails. It was partially why he felt such a strong bond with her. If anyone dared tease her about it, he'd be on them so fast he'd leave them with no tails!
Still curious about this familiarity, he spoke again. So, how come you knew what pack I was from? Did Diego mention me or something? His tone was wary. If Diego spoke about someone that wasn't always a good thing

Though his words did make her feel better, she still felt rather awkward now it had been pointed out. He had a point though. The only other Volpe she had seen with three tails was her daughter, and that was obviously genetics taking place. Though she had seen this male wandering round when she visited the beach, she had never noticed the fact he had three tails himself.
Oh no. I've just noticed you, that's all. I go to the beach quite often with my daughters. It helps build pack relations, and they do like to see their dad Realizing he didn't really recognize her, she quickly added I'm Nadir by the way. Leader of the Celestial Pack? She tilted her head with vague amusement. It was odd not to be known. No doubt this male would be a little embarassed when he realized who she was

That's where he knew her from! Now that he thought about it, he had spotted a stranger hanging round with Diego from time to time. He had never paid much attention really. Why should he? Diego was always with someone. But now he could place her as the mother of Diego's pups. He knew them certainly. When they came to stay with the pack, he was forced to eat alongside them. Not that they weren't pleasant people of course. He just preferred to be alone.
Les He verified, introducing himself properly So you're the mother or Icepop & co then? He hoped she wouldn't be offended by his nickname of them. Icepop really was so loud and so bright you couldn't miss her. The quieter daughter didn't stand out in comparison. Could he remember her name? Lavit would know, but then she wasn't here to help him this time

She smiled fondly at the mention of her pups, giving a proud nod. Satisfied that he wasn't going to say anything else offputting, she sat down on the ground and wound her tails round her for warmth. She had needed reminding of his name, though she was sure she had been told it at some point. His own bright colouring made him hard to miss, although she was sure there was something off about his appearance...
Then it struck her. Aren't you normally with your friend? She was careful to word it properly, using a gentle tone. After all, perhaps they had had a fight or something. Though she couldn't picture the quiet, wispy thing he hung round with getting mad at anyone. They made quite an odd pair really. Diego mentioned it occasionally-how strong and snappy he was compared to her quietness and gentility. But then, people rarely chose friends like themselves did they? It was all abou balance-something this male seemed very fond of, if you could judge by colouring

Since she had sat down, he felt compelled to do the same. It wasn't as if he actually wanted to meet anyone in this place anyway. Chit-chatting with Nadir would pass the time nicely until Sandy decided he could come home. If she allowed him to come home. What did he want puppies for anyway? It wasn't as if he ever felt the need to have a tiny version of him running around.
His fur bristled slightly at her question, and he was once more reminded of Lavit's abscence. Trying not to appear bothered, he ruffled his fur and gave a vague shrug of his shoulders. She couldn't really come with me here could she? I guess she's just running round the beach somewhere. She'll be fine That was perhaps the bitter truth. Would she even be missing him? Sometimes he felt he cared more about her than she did him

Though he had clearly tried to hide it, she saw through his little facade. His friend must mean a lot to him, for him to be so miserable about spending a little time apart. His 'don't care' atttitude wasn't fooling anyone. With his head faced downwards and his paws awkwardly crossed, he looked awfully similar to an upset pup.
Her natural caring instinct took over. Still keeping her voice gentle, she did her best to reassure him. It must be hard, being apart from someone you care about She made sure that while her tone was sympathetic, it was also casual and breezy I always worry terribly when I leave my pack. But I know they can deal without me and that they'll be waiting when I come back Hesitating, a thought crept into her head. Trying to decide on the best way to word it, she decided to just ask. Are you and her...together?
