16. His head had been bowed slightly but now he looked up at her again, startlingly pink eyes glistening - with more tears? Rasgos smiled slightly as though her words had cheered him up. “Rainbow Kage? That’s pretty. Suits you too, Rainbow. What does Kage mean though?” He asked interestedly, then realizing he hadn’t actually answered her question he quickly continued “My names Rasgos.”

17. Oh good, he looked happier now, even if she feared that glittering in his eyes might be new tears welling up. His voice sounded level though, so hopefully he wasn’t about to burst into noisy tears in front of her. And he liked her name! That’s pleased her a lot for some reason. “Kage means Shadow” She told him. “And what does Rasgos mean?” Rainbow Kage asked in return.

18. Rasgos nodded at her answer, well then; here name really did fight perfectly. It described the contrast between the rainbow of her stripes and muzzle to the dark gray of her pelt in two words. Perfect.
“Rasgos means tears.” He told her. How appropriate that was too… His eye sight seemed to shimmer a bit, as it did when he was about to cry. Unable to stop it, a single tear rolled down his right cheek once more.”

19. Just as Rainbow Kage herself was thinking how well Rasgos seemed to fit him, she saw a tear roll down through the rainbow triangle of his face.
Oh no! So even talking about names had upset him! Then she saw the tear reach the dark gray, almost black of his pelt. She gasped. “Its rainbow!” Rainbow Kage said out loud in awe.
It was probably a stupid, tactless thing to say but she couldn’t help it.
Without thinking she stepped forward and reached a paw out. For a second the tear was suspended in the air, then it fell, sparkling like a many coloured prism, onto her outstretched paw pad. After a second it rolled off the humped, leathery surface of her paw pad and was lost in the pink fur of her paw.

20. Rasgos looked down, surprised to see a paw appear under his face. The tear shivered and fell from his face to splash down onto the pad of her paw. It then rolled off and was lost among the fine, pink fur of her paw.
He looked back up at her, deep pink eyes once again meeting pale pink ones. For a second there seemed to be a connection between the two of them, as though a part of his soul had fallen with the tear onto her paw.
Then he found himself speaking, “Aren’t all tears rainbow?” The words were spoken quietly as though talking any louder would snap the final, delicate threads of connection between them.

21. How had this connection suddenly appeared between them? She had never felt this odd connection with any one and she struggled to understand it. His voice, gentle and hushed broke her out of her reverie but kept the magic of the moment locked in. “I’ve never seen rainbow tears before, they are usually see-through, more white then anything else.” She replied in an equally quiet voice.

22. Well that was interesting. So others tears were not all sparkling, iridescent like his? How odd. It didn’t really bother him though, made him feel a little confused and pleased at this uniqueness, true, but not in anyway worried. So what if his tears were rainbow? Stranger things could happen in this world, and they often did. Like this connection between the two of them. Was it love? How odd…

23. Suddenly she felt the familiar flush of embarrassment race through her. Without meaning to, she pulled away and the threads of that odd connection seemed to suddenly gasp. She wasn’t left feeling empty and lifeless though. Even though she had pulled away from that depth of intimacy, she still somehow felt different…in a good way…
Gently she placed her paw back on the ground.

24. He felt the tendrils of the connection swarm around him as they snapped. Like Rainbow Kage, Rasgos didn’t feel any less for it being over. They were still connected, just in a different way. It was still special, still close.
It finally occurred to him to ask, though in his heart he knew it was unnecessary. “You said earlier Ryuu brought you here. She brought me here too. Does that mean she meant for us to be together?”

1. Rainbow Kage smiled at him, her two tails wagging from side to side slightly. She leaned forwards and gently licked his tear tracked cheek. Pulling back, slightly embarrassed but with other, stronger emotions boiling up inside her, replied. “Yes, Ryuu meant for us to meet here”
Coming here was starting to look like it had been a good idea after all. She was really glad Ryuu had brought her here now.
