Kayne didn't want to be trained. Training just sounded like something below him, like how a teenager feels when they're called a child. He didn't need training, so why did Wolf insist on it? She had told him to be quiet for the duration of the training, but he couldn't help it. "Why do I have to be trained Wolf?" He asked, though he already knew the answer. It must have been the 40th time today, and they weren't even at the feilds yet. Wolf didn't bother to answer. She had told him enough times that he had to be trained so he could become stronger and protect her. Everyting taught to him, no matter how small, increased his level, and the higher his level, the more attacks and such he could learn. He knew that, but he didn't have to like it. "Fine then." He said with a sigh. "What's first." Wolf knew he would react to this, but really, it was best to start at the bottom and work your way up. "Your name." She said finally. (Kayne, 0.2)

Kayne stopped dead, just a few feet from the training feild and hissed at Wolf. "My name?!" He asked in horror. "But I already know my name. I suppose you want me to sit and come and beg for treats as well?" He whipped his tail back and forth almost faster than Wolf could see, a sure sign that he was angry.
Wolf sighed, knowing very well this would be his reaction. "It's not like that Kayne." She said with another sigh. "I don't want to explain all the things about levels and such, it's for humans to know and not volpes. It still confuses me. All I know is that your level isn't high enough for you to learn things like Sever or Flame bite. We have to start small, and that's with your name. I'll try to spare you as many tricks as possible, although I would like to teach you all of them, as some may be useful, like fly. Can you fly yet Kayne?"
His first instinct was to bare his teeth, but she made sense, in a way. He certainly couldn't fly. Flying was a trick? Perhaps he would listen, a bit. "What do I have to do?" He finally asked. "Just respond to your name." Was the answer. "And no more talking for a bit, I can't stand here all day arguing with you."

Kayne sat a little way away from Wolf, still very reluctant to train, but wanting to learn how to fly and the other things that she had mentioned. Sever sounded very useful. "Kayne!"Wolf suddenly called out, in a high pitched talking-to-dumb-animals voice. Well, Kayne wasn't going to stand for that, no he wasn't. He stayed completly still, making sure that his ears didn't twitch even by accident. He was not a dumb animal, and learning to fly or not, he would not be treated like one.
In fact, he thought, he wouldn't even let her know what she was doing wrong. If she claimed to be so smart that she could teach him things, then she chould figure it out by herself. She had told him not to talk too, and he could use that to his advantage by refusing to tell her what the problem was.

"Kayne?" Wolf asked, looking at her companion with a confused look on her face. The liger volpe didn't move a muscle in response. She might as well have not existed for all the attention he was paying her, which was just plain strange. Usually she couldn't get him to stop talking and giving advice to her. "Kayne, what's the matter?"
Even though he was angry at her actions, Kayne couldn't stay angry at Wolf for long, that just wasn't his way. "You." He finally muttered. "You're the problem, with the high pitched voice. I"m not a dog you know." He twitched his tail in annoyence that it had taken him to show her that.
He wasn't only annoyed, but hurt as well. Did she truly think he had a brain of a dog after all he had done for her? His two natures were warring against each other, his proud, never give in side, and the side that wanted to make Wolf happy and would do so at all costs.

"Oh Kayne." Wolf said, easily melting like butter in his paws. She loved him too, and didn't like seeing him looking so upset. She knew she had been hard on him, trying to counter his stubborness by standing her ground, and had instently gone into her training a stubborn volpe mode. Well, Kayne was a stubborn volpe, but Wolf knew why, and that made all the difference.
She petted him softly, strocking down his back in just the way he liked it. "I know you're not a dog Kayne." She said. "This is just the way I normally train is all. If it bothers you though, I really would like to know. I don't like teaching you tricks anymore than you want to learn them, but it's nessisarry, like school is for me. Or perhaps the old saying you have to learn to walk before you run is more appropriate. You're trying to run Kayne when you don't even know how to stand. training is different than knowing things instinctivly, and sometimes you have to re-learn things you already know in order to move ahead."
Kayne listened, and knew that she was right. "I'll try harder." He said quietly. But only a bit harder. He said inside his own head. Sure, learning was great and all, but he would certainly draw the line somewhere.

"That's all I ask." Wolf said, giving him one more pat. "Come on, let's try again Kayne. I know you don't like food rewards, but my parents used to give me candy for making my bed and such, so it's not limited to unintelligent animals, and I know how much you like watermelon." With a mischevious look on her face, Wolf slung the backpack she was carrying off of her shoulder and opened it to reveal a huge ziplock bag full of fresh seedless watermelon.
Kayne couldn't help it, his mouth drooled at the sight of it. "Learn your name." Wolf said with a laugh, "and you can have a few slices." This actually didn't sound too bad to Kayne. Now that there was rewards, and tasty ones at that, he was looking forward to learning his name, but he knew that he would still give Wolf a bit of trouble before he accepted that she was teaching him something and not the other way around.
