Darn, there went his chance for a joke. So she wanted to be serious? That was slightly unnerving. He didn't really know how to respond to her. Swishing his tail thoughtfully, he focused his blue eyes on her violet ones. Her eyes really were an unusual colour...
Alright then, let me see. Something about myself...Well, when I was younger I always wanted a brother He knew Temper's brother of course. Awful guy, always dirty and trying to pick a fight. Alastair found him quite fun to tease

Okay, no deep and meaningful secret. But at least they were getting somewhere. Besides, she could respond to that, maybe get a conversation going. After all, she knew all about having a brother. And a twin brother at that, a particularly irritating species.
You're not missing much, trust me She grinned somewhat wickedly As far as siblings go, you can count yourself lucky. Being an only child is probably best

Her opinion was surprising to him. It was clear to anyone who saw them that Temper and Denahi had a very close relationship, even for siblings. Granted, they fought quite a bit. But it was never anything serious.
Really? And here was me thinking you worshiped the ground your brother walked on This was actually turning out to be an amusing little chat. Alastair assumed that Temper did care a lot about her brother, mainly because whenever he insulted him she (and her claws) were quick to jump to his defense. However cliched it might be, they were like two peas in a pod

Well, like a lot of things it depends on my mood. And his attitude She had to be fair-he was probably the best brother she could wish for. Trouble was, most of the time she didn't wish for a brother at all.
He has been good to me though. After all, he did pretty much raise me by himself. And it's not like I was an easy pup to live with either What was going on? Why was she sharing her life story with him? He didn't care! And yet...those icy eyes were focused on her with surprising concentration. He actually seemed to be listening to her

That sounded nice. Ordinarily, such a sweet and family-friendly story would make Alastair crack a joke or snort with laughter. But well, he had never seen a tender side of Temper before. It was somewhat awkward, but nice too. In a purely hypothetical way of course.
It must have been great to have someone look out for you the way he did His tone could have been interpreted as wistful, but it was uncertain how he meant it. Traditionally, Alastair preferred to be on his own. When he was so great, why did he need anyone else?

Yes, it was She admitted, swishing her fluffy tails thoughtfully. Who would have thought a few days ago that she would be discussing the pros and cons of family life? Certainly not her. Determined not to become too vulnerable, she added Not that I'm not completely independant now
Having her brother as a role model certainly had helped her develop her own mind. Alastair had had no role model as far as she knew, and yet he still seemed to be a fairly-rounded individual. If not a little cruel at times

Well, I wouldn't dare to imply anything else The twinkle was back in the male's eye, though it was more good-natured than before That's just the cycle of growth really. We are dependant, then independant. Often dependant again in old age, unless we're really lucky
The Royal didn't like to think of his own immortality. Partially to change the subject and partially just because, he randomly added. I never had much of a role model, brother or otherwise

Gosh, did he have to be so depressing? Temper mulled over these thoughts for a few minutes, under the pretence of staring at her paws. Would her fur one day turn grey? She certainly hoped not! When his distraction came, she was happy to take it.
Thank goodness for that. Two Alastairs would have been too much I think It was a joke, rather than a barbed comment. Her way of lightening the situation, nothing more. She even managed a friendly smile

At first he was all ready to take offence, fearing that the time they had spent together had been pointless. She obviously hadn't meant the truce-what a waste! But his objection was preveted when he realized she was smiling. And not in a 'I'm-going-to-kill-you' way.
Like you wouldn't love it He teased back, tilting his head down playfully. What a strange encounter this had turned out to be! He was beginning to think of Temper as alright-even perhaps a little pretty!

What was this? She was almost pleased that he hadn't taken offence and stormed off. Not that she was glad he was here, but she was beginning to feel like she'd rather he was here than wasn't. If that made any sense.
I'd hate it She admitted honestly But I'm starting to think that one Alastair might not be so bad It was strange how she was feeling. Nothing like she had about Ark (it had been love with him) but Alastair seemed fairly decent. At least, he might be okay for now. She would have to wait and see
