The female realized she'd been holding her breath. Quickly she let it out, taking several more quick ones to prevent herself from suffocating. Grinning, she flicked her tails delightedly.
What happened next? Were you safe then? She had loved listening to his story. He had a wonderful voice, both pleasant and interesting. Unlike some Volpes his stories contained no needless, dull information. Fleck almost felt like she could listen to him forever, if she was ever needed to

Her eagerness to ask questions seemed to confirm her earlier interest. He smiled secretively, then continued with a quieter, but equally dramatic voice. I thought that I must indeed be safe. Waiting until I regained my breath, I got to my feet and began trekking back up to find Alora, so that her pack might offer me safe passage. But as I began to climb, I took one last glance back-and I jumped! For in that second glance, I saw three pairs of eyes staring back at me from the bushes. And that was how I escaped the Umbrage Tribe
Now his story was over, Odyssey felt compelled to learn about this female. He felt slightly guilty for talking about himself so much, but now he was ready and eager to learn a bit about her. So, tell me. Have you ever encountered another pack? He sat back, blinking expectantly at her with his bright eyes

The perfect ending indeed. Satisfying, yet somewhat of a cliffhanger. She reflected happily on it for a few minutes, before telling him shyly. You're a fantastic storyteller Fleck found herself glancing at his coat. His fur really was handsome-a deep ebony dotted with beautiful golden and navy stars. He practically glittered really.
His question surprised her. Me? Well...I've visited several other packs. Of course, my encounters haven't been as interesting as yours. But I've been to the Skylark Pack once or twice. And I went with Icepop to visit her dad

He lowered his head shyly at the compliment. Although sometimes he could come off as full of himself, Odyssey really was quite modest. Of course, he occasionally bragged in his stories...but that was a different matter! Every story needed a protagonist, a hero. Even if you had to exaggerate in order to get one.
Fleck sounded quite demeaning, as if her story wasn't worth telling if it wasn't as 'interesting' as his. Nonsense! Desperate to show he did care and still wanted to hear it, he put on his best 'listening face'. Icepop? Her dad lives... Hang on, he could remember this On the beach doesn't he? I bet that was fun. Tell me about that

Aww, he was quite cute when he lowered his head like that. His hair flopped over his eyes, making him look almost adorable. She blushed instantly after thinking that. Wait, they were just friends-weren't they? He couldn't possible be interested in her.
She was quite flattered by the fact he wanted to learn more. Nervous about what words she chose, she began to tell him. Well, yes it is actually. The beach looks really nice, especially in summer. The sea feels brilliant to swim in, and it's really the best thing in the world after you've been basking in the Sun all day. Have you ever been to the beach?

The way she told things was unskilled, but endearing. He couldn't help but smile at the fondness in her voice. Clearly she loved being on the beach.
Once. I can't say I cared much for the sand or the heat, but the water was pleasant Odyssey preferred tidy, cool places to the searing heat and messy sand And the Ocean Pack are good company. So many K9s! Reckless things He smiled warmly with the words though, taking off any possible edge. When he had visited the pack, there had seemed to be hundreds of pups. Of course, there was only three-but what excitable things! Good fun, if a little exhausting. He liked pups-they were the eagerest to listen to his stories

Yes, she supposed the sand was rather irritating after a while. She smiled at the comment about the K9s. There was such a large amount in the pack! Who knows where they all came from. But they were fun, even if their eagerness was a bit wearing.
Sometimes I think Icepop would be happier living there She said thoughtfully. Fleck often spoke about her friends a lot. It was partly because she thought of them as more interesting than herself, and partly because she cared about them a lot and couldn't help talking about them sometimes.
Another thought came to her. She wasn't sure whether or not to share it, but she couldn't really help herself. She had to know. Icepop's great isn't she? She muttered cautiously. It was probably Ice he liked. Either her, or Odette

He blinked in surprise. Why had she brought up Icepop all of a sudden? It seemed a slightly odd subject change. Unless...no, she couldn't be. But if she was...Was she jealous?
He blinked bemusedly at the idea. But she did have that sort of self-conscious body language. If she was jealous, that must mean that she liked him. Odyssey thought about this. He'd like it if she liked him. Well, he liked her. Or at least, he thought he did. She had a gentle sort of charm and was easy to talk to. He was fairly certain he liked her a lot. Yes, she's a good friend He picked his words carefully Definitely a friend

He seemed quite amused all of a sudden. She couldn't help but wonder why. Had she said something funny? But her thoughts were interrupted by his answer. She focused on it intently, her tails flicking anxiously.
His answer was reassuring she supposed. He had definitely used the word 'friend'. Which was good, right? That put Ice out of the way, leaving her with just Odette. But Odette was so beautiful...there was no way Odyssey would pick Fleck over her, any day.
Is Odette your friend too? Or...is she something more? Her last statement sounded pretty miserable. She was sure there was no chance of him answering the way she wanted him too

Yep, that confirmed it. She was jealous. He couldn't help but smile delightedly at that, in spite of himself. Grinning, he paused as if thinking profoundly. Then, deciding it was far too cruel, he quickly corrected her.
Just a friend. While she is beautiful, I don't really have much to talk to her about He answered truthfully. Yes, she enjoyed his stories. But, well...sometimes she didn't always get 'the point'. He didn't like that much. Made him feel as though his stories were pointless.
There is one female who has caught my eye. However, I fear she does not return my affections Smiling shyly, he glanced up at Fleck Perhaps you could enlighten me? She's a pretty Volpe with toffee and sky-blue markings, goes by the name of Fleck. Have any ideas? His eyes lit up as Fleck smiled brightly in return. He'd take that as a yes
