She couldn't help reacting in shock. It just seemed such a strange idea to her. How can you not be close to your pack? She tilted her head. Now she'd gotten over the shock of it, she was more bemused than anything. What a strange male he must be!
My pack is like my family. Well, I know it is literally family in certain cases, but that's not what I mean. I can't imagine not being close with them. How can you spend all your time with strangers? She fluttered her wings as a slight breeze ruffled her fur. It was distinctively less sunny than before. She hoped it wasn't going to rain-that would probably mess up her fur

He was momentarily distracted by her wings as they fluttered. They were quite a pretty shade of red, and the sun kinda flashed off them...
Her cough reminded him where he was. I don't really spend time with them. To me, they're more like 'neighbours' than a pack. Like some Volpes who just happen to live in the same area, but you don't really talk to. You know what I mean? He tilted his own head with a sigh. He doubted she'd really get it. Everyone just seemed to think he was heartless when he spoke like that

That sounds rather strange to me Her tone was slightly apologetic, and she wanted to make it clear that she wasn't calling him strange. Hearing him sigh, she guessed it would be best for the both of them if they changed the subject. She didn't want to upset him.
So, what kind of stuff are you into? Her own hobbies were pretty simple. She enjoyed hanging around with her sister and her friends, just exploring and having fun. On her last visit to the beach, she had gotten slightly hooked on belly-surfing, although that had been a while ago. She wondered if this male had ever visited the beach

The subject change didn't bother him. Let her talk about whatever she wanted to. He was just happy to sit there and listen to her gorgeous voice. The subject matter was a little tricky-Peri didn't have many 'hobbies'. As his aunt put it, he was 'too lazy for his own good'.
Well... Clearly he'd have to improvise here. He didn't want her to think he was boring I prefer...watching things. You know, kind of observing? There isn't really much to do on a mountain. I'm sure your hobbies are much more interesting Well, could have been worse but it could have been better. Let's see how it worked

I'm sure living on a mountain might be quite fun Tilting her head, she began to think You could...play hide and seek? There's got to be loads of caverns up there. Or you could...try and reach the top? She knew her ideas weren't very good, but at least she was trying. To be honest, she'd much rather live where she did than up on a mountain.
I wouldn't say that She grinned good-naturedly I just enjoy relaxing really. My dad lives on a beach, so when I go to visit him I take part in some water-sports and stuff. That's quite fun She was blushing slightly, not sure whether or not she was boring him Have you ever been to the beach?

He could hear the skepticism in her voice. He didn't blame her. Despite the fact it was his own home, Peri thought of the mountains as a rather boring place to live. A beach? Now that sounded mildly interesting. Might be a bit messy though-he wouldn't want to screw up his fur.
I think I went once, as a pup. Don't remember much except there being a lot of water A memory did come back to him. He'd been paddling somewhat happily (Even then he had been aware that the water was affecting his coat) when suddenly, this...creature had emerged from the water. It had seemed huge to him when he'd been small, and when he'd seen those claws snapping he couldn't help running away in fright.
A blush spread across his face at the memory. Of course, he'd been made fun of it by the residents on the beach. Seeing Odette's inquiring look, he explained awkwardly.
I was...attacked by a crab

Normally, Odette prided herself on having very good manners. She had been raised that way, and it had stuck throughout her life. But...well, she couldn't help herself. Attacked by a crab? It just sounded so ridiculous!
She stopped spluttering when she saw how embarrassed he looked. Poor thing. Sorry She was still smiling, but her apology was sincere It was just rather random. Still, you know crabs aren't that bad. Like most creatures-they'll leave you alone if you leave them alone first She could imagine the puppy-form of Peri, all big eyes and messy feathers. Odette supposed he must have seemed quite sweet

The blush spread even more. He couldn't bear it! Sure, she had apologized, but that smirk was still there. Peri was famous at home for being a bit moody, and that side showed now. Getting to his feet, he furiously turned round and began to walk away.
He was briefly aware he was being crazy. He couldn't just walk away from this gorgeous female! But his pride was hurt, and Peri never thought straight when that happened. His fur bristling, he didn't even bother to glance back

Odette's eyes widened in surprise. He was just walking away! Surely she hadn't offended him that much? She hadn't meant to at least. Alarmed, she jumped to her feet and quickly darted after him, her wings flapping with the effort.
Hey, wait! Fortunately, Odette had been blessed with speed. She slipped ahead of him and stood firmly in his way Look, I didn't mean to upset you! It just sounded quite funny. Sorry Gently she nudged him, eager to make up. She hated upsetting anyone

The extra weight of his wings had meant Peri was never as fast as he liked to be. Despite his attempts to avoid the female, she still managed to overtake him. He had to stop suddenly to avoid crashing into her. That would hardly have helped the situation.
Another thing Peri could sometimes be capable of was cold-heartedness. Despite the obvious sincerity of her apology, he was still quite mad and determined to refuse to accept it.
That was, until she nudged him. He had no idea such a simple action could have such a huge effect on him. Peri would actually swear that the sun got brighter, the birds got louder. He was pretty dazed actually.
There was no way he could stay mad after that. Glancing at her slightly self-conscious smile, he grinned goofily back. It's okay. I guess I could stay a while longer... Nudging her back, he made a mental note to thank Alora when he got back
