Oh great. He should have known really. When Alora had said she was taking him somewhere, he should have known it would be this place. She was always trying to fix him up with other Volpes. Didn't she understand that none of them were good enough? Sighing, he folded up his magnificent wings and glanced around the area. It was nice enough, more flowers and plants than up in the mountain. It would be hell for a Volpe with hayfever. He might as well accept that there was no escape. He was pretty much stuck here 1/25

Shuffling her feet, the female lifted her head shyly. Normally she would enjoy being in such a lovely place as this, especially on such a nice day. Her fur ruffled slightly in the light breeze and the scent of flowers filled the air. Any Volpes who strolled past might assume she was happy-Odette's face rarely looked downcast. One thing she definitely wasn't was happy. She often tried to make the best of a bad situation, but she didn't like being here. There were several males at home who were interested in her romantically. Didn't her mother know that she would have paired up with one of them if she had been inclined to start a family? Letting out a wistful sigh, Odette flopped down on the grass and sent a flurry of blossoms scurrying in the breeze. She'd have to make do for now 2/25

There he was, feeling sorry for himself when suddenly it hit him. Lifting his head, he sniffed again. There it was-one of the nicest scents Pericles had ever smelled. Frowning, he got to his feet and turned round. The smell had come from the direction of a clump of bushes behind him.
Cautiously he padded forward. Pushing through the bushes, he saw the source. The most beautiful female Volpe Pericles had ever seen was sat about five feet away. Her head was resting on her paws and she didn't look very happy. The male froze in shock, not believing his eyes. No Volpe had made him feel like this before!

The sound of rustling drew her attention. Lazily she lifted her head and saw a male Volpe standing before her. She paid a bit more attention when she noticed his unique wings. His fur was a plain white colour, but he had big, beautiful wings, almost like a swan's. The tips of his wings were coloured differently, like a spectrum.
Can I help you? She said after a moment or two of silence. He was looking at her rather weirdly really. Kind of...gormless to be honest. She wasn't sure whether to be scared or to laugh

Wow, she really was gorgeous. Her fur was a dark pinkish colour, with several lighter pink stockings and stripes. It looked very soft and fluffy, like she had just washed it. Both her eyes and wings were a darker, yet somehow brighter shade of reddish pink. Her eyes almost seemed to glow.
Her question brought him back to reality. Right, words. Erm...he was supposed to say something in return wasn't he? Pulling himself back together, he opened his mouth to speak. Yes. Well, maybe. I was told to meet a female around these parts. Might you be her? Apart from the slightest blip at the start, he had managed to make sense. Always a good thing

So, this was the male she was supposed to meet? Fair dos, he could be worse. He was handsome in a typical way, and he seemed quite nice so far. Of course, that could be about to change.
Getting to her feet, Odette shook herself before nodding in greeting. It's possible. I'm meeting someone too Giving him the once over, she smiled gently I'm Odette She hoped he wouldn't react to her name. It was certainly unusual, but she was quite proud of it if she was honest. It reminded her of her dad

He was quite bemused by her little nod, but he wanted to impress her so he nodded in return. Pericles was quite surprised by this sudden attraction to her. He'd always thought the phrase 'love at first sight' was just a saying. Apparently not.
I'm Pericles For once, he actually felt anxious about how this female would react to his name But most people call me Peri Thank goodness it could be shortened to something normalish. It would do nothing for his image if such a handsome Volpe as he had such an awkward name

After the introductions had been made, Odette felt it would be okay to sit down again. She sat up straight this time, wrapping her two tails around her self-consciously. She tilted her head at the sound of his name. It seemed this male had almost an unusual name as her own.
Pericles...I feel like I've heard that before. Does it have any meaning? Odette had gone through a phase as a pup where she was desperate to know the meanings of every name she could find. It had started with her dad telling her what her own name meant. She had grown out of that phase now, but that slight curiousity would probably always be there

He was all too eager to sit down next to this beautiful creature. Checking to make sure he didn't sit on anything which might stain his white coat (Peri was very proud at times, and liked to keep clean) he sat down and fluffed up his fur.
Not that I know of What an odd subject to talk about! Still, he was happy to go along with whatever she said, if it made her happy Although it's quite a famous Greek name. I think there's a play with it in the title? He didn't really want to talk about plays to be honest. He wanted to know more about her.
So, where do you come from? Heaven? He wanted to add, but stopped himself in time. Now was not the time to look like a dork

She wasn't sure she was comfortable with him sitting down so close, so soon, but she decided to let it go. After all, she couldn't get up and move without looking extremely rude.
The quick subject change disappointed her slightly too. While she hadn't actually seen any 'plays', there was a Volpe that visited her pack often. He told the most amazing stories, often Greek in origin too. It might have been quite fun to share some of her knowledge about them.
Still, the subject of home life was a good one too. I'm from the Celestial Pack She explained, not sure whether or not he would have heard of it My mother's the leader. You know Nadir?

Ah yes, he'd heard of that pack. Only briefly mind-Peri didn't tend to listen to things that didn't concern him. Still, as far as he knew his pack and hers were on good terms. That would explain why Alora set them up together.
You're Nadir's daughter? He had a vague memory of Nadir. Calm, collected Volpe. Seemed to know what she was doing. He guessed she made a good leader Wow, you must be like royalty then. At least you look like a princess He smiled brightly, impressed. This girl seemed perfect for him-good bloodline and beautiful!

She rolled her eyes at his remark. To think, she used to go silly and giggle when she got remarks like that! Now she was pretty much used to it. It might have sounded vain, but it was only true. Odette was used to attention of that sort.
Not exactly. Our pack has two alphas, Nadir and her mate. Only Nadir is a parent of mine Octile had been crushed when he found out that Nadir had had pups with another male. Odette knew she was a constant reminder of his pain, and she hated that.
What's your pack like? She was curious to know, and it was a perfect excuse for changing the subject

Oh. That must be kind of awkward It was unusual for him to think about how others felt about things. But he sympathized slightly with this beauty My pack has only one alpha It made sense when you thought about it. Who would challenge the authority of a dragon?
I belong to the Skylark pack by the way He used the term 'belong' weakly. He didn't really get on with most members of his pack. He didn't value packs as much as other Volpes did. Why should he work and slave for others? It was easier to let them work and slave for him

Hmm, a nice bit of unexpected sympathy there. She knew about the Skylark pack of course. After all, that pack and her own had a sort of connection between them. Being the leader's daughter, she had gone once as a pup to visit them. She couldn't remember seeing Peri, but she could remember the leader. Who could forget meeting a dragon Volpe, one of the rarest yet most beautiful of all breeds?
His tone when he mentioned what pack he belonged to bothered her. It almost sounded like the subject didn't matter to him at all. Don't you...don't you like your pack? Her voice was softer than usual, and her worry was clear in the way she spoke

Well... He squirmed uncomfortably. Odette suddenly looked all accusing, as if he'd done something horribly wrong. Clearly she was a Volpe who praised pack relationships above other things I wouldn't say I didn't like them. But no, we're not particularly close
It hadn't started off by choice. It just seemed that other members of his pack didn't like him, and he didn't feel particularly connected to them either. They always seemed to be giving him orders, telling him what to do. Who needed that?
