Perfection still felt uncomfortable, but now that the subject of pups had been started, she thought that she would be alright now. Obiously she knew that he had come there to breed with her, although he didn't seem too keen on the idea. Did he want pups? If so, then she would approch the subject differently than if he didn't want them. Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt to ask.
"So what's your thoughts on pups?" She asked, a smile on her face. She felt less shy now that she knew what to say. Whatever reply he gave, she would be ready.

Gifa should of saw this coming. Pups, of course she would want to talk about pups, that was why they were here. Gifa had to think about this one. He didn't want to upset her."Aw, pups." Gifa said just to stall for time. His mind was working overtime. Gifa had never really thought about pups until he was told he would breed with another volpes, and even then he didn't think about it much. Gifa just thought the female would keep the pups he never thought we would have to raise any of them. Things now seemed different. How could he tell Perfection all of this though? Would she understand? Gifa doubted. Females and their pups."What are your thoughts on pups." Gifa swiftly said not wanting to say anything to Perfection, well at least not until he knew what her thought were on the subject.

Perfection smiled and almost said I asked you first, but thought better of it. "Pups are one of the best things in the world." She said simply. "They take a lot of work, but the rewards are great, and watching them grow bigger each day..." She suddenly fell silent, and an infinate sadness came over her. The truth was that Perfection's litter of pups, her first, and, up till now, her last, had sadly parished in the snow only a few months ago.
She remembered Wildsong's joy at his litter, and the pups, three of them, how soft and warm and wonderful they were, how they seemed to learn more each day about their surrondings. Then one day they had simply all gone missing, found frozen solid a few days later out in the merciless cold.
She tried to shake the thought from her mind and turned back to Gifa, but sadness still shone deep in her eyes.
(OOC: She knew so much about pups, I just had to give her a litter that had died so it didn't seem weird that a female who had never mated would know so much about them.)

Gifa listened thoughtfully. So she loved pups? That was great, just great. Perfection knew a lot about pups, did she maybe already have pups? It really didn't matter to Gifa but still. Then Perfection stopped talking. What was wrong? When she turned back to him he saw deep sorrow in her eyes. Did thinking about pups make her sad? Why? Was it because she had none of her own?"Something wrong." Gifa asked carefully, his heart going out to her. Gifa really did want to know what was wrong, why Gifa didn't really know himself. He felt his heart ache just to look in her sorrow-filled eyes.

"Huh?" Perfection says. It's the only thing she can think of to say. Then , realizing that he must see the sadness in her eyes, she deliberatly closes them. She does an old trick that Wildsong taught her. If you push emotion to the back of your mind, it doesn't shine through your eyes. She carefully stores the memory of her frozen pups away, to mourn later, and opens her eyes. They are once again clear and bright.
"I was just thinking of what had happened to my other pups." She says calmly, though in reality she's still holding the memory away from the front of her mind. "If only I could have watched them grow up." She whispers, in what she thinks is a voice too quiet for Gifa to hear, but likely isn't.

Wonder how she did that Gifa pondered as her eyes became clear once more."Your other pups?" Gifa asked, a stone sinking in his stomach. So his pups wouldn't be her first? That didn't please Gifa. Why did it displease him though? Did it matter at all? Gifa didn't understand this."What happened?" he asked bluntly. He didn't hear her added comment though it wouldn't' of made a difference. Gifa thoughts kept going back to sadness. He had wanted her first pups to be his! Why though? Why did it even matter?

Perfection almost let out a sigh, but held it in. Why oh why did she have to have mentioned her other pups? It was clearly making Gifa sad, but he wanted to know more about them as well. What was she to do? She didn't want to make him sad, it would likely make her sad too, but he had a right to know about her other pups.
She sat down and wrapped her tail tightly around herself, looking at the ground. Tears shone in her pink eyes, but she refused to release them. "I had pups before." She began, her voice wobbling and almost breaking. "Three beautiful little pups, all females. They had their foxes too of course, as all Wildsong Volpes have." She paused again, remembering how they had been. "They were too young to even have recived their names yet, but old enough that I had already begun to think about them, and was almost certain what they would be." She stopped again, and realized that the snow beneath her paws was wet. She was crying.

Gifa sat down before Perfection started her story. Gifa could tell she was holding back tears. Gifa nodded as she spoke taken it all in. He could tell Perfection has loved her pups with all her heart. He could also tell that telling him was upsetting her. Suddenly the tears began to fall from her eyes. She was crying! Gifa's heart panged with sorrow."Are you ok?" he asked. Gifa wanted to urge her forward but didn't. She needed to let it all out."I'm sorry." Gifa said slowly.

Perfection looked up at the big griffen, then leaned her head againt his soft, downy feathers. She felt scared and alone right now, and guilty and sad and confused, all at once. She had indeed loved her pups, with a fierce and undying love. But... had it been her fault they had died? Should she have protected them more, kept a better eye on them? She would never be able to answer the questions. All she wanted right now was to be protected from the memories of the frozen pups, from her own guilt, from herself.
She had turned to the only creature that seemed to care right now, a griffen that had sharp talons and a crushing beak. She seemed to think that the natural weapons that he had could protect her from the incorperal monsters that were racing through her mind. They couldn't, of course, but to her, they could. "I Miss them every day." She whispered.

Gifa blinked when Perfection leaned in to him. He didn't understand why she did. Gifa could feel her wet tears against his chest though he did not withdraw. Gifa let her cry in to him. Gifa's heart ached as she cried. He didn't want her to cry he, didn't want her to feel sad."Its ok." Gifa whispered."I promise it will be ok." Gifa felt the urge to protect her from anything and everything even the sadness of losing her pups."Everything is going to be ok." Gifa whispered. Gifa had never done anything like this before. He didn't often care about others. Something was different about Perfection and Gifa liked it.

Perfection's quiet tears dripped onto Gifa's feathers and sat there, sparkling like miniture jewels before being absorbed by his feathers. She sat like that for a long time, until her eyes felt dry from the loss of so much water, then raised her head, finally hearing Gifa's whispered words. "I know." She said simply, but still sort of sad becuase she was still thinking about her pups. "I have you to protect me." She didn't know if it was the right thing to say, or even really cared.
