x Why was she here?It might have seemed like a stupid question to some, but it was pretty much all that was running through Lucinda's head as she stepped onto the soft grass. A gentle breeze ruffled her fur, but she had a feeling it wasn't the breeze that was causing her to shiver. She looked back with despair to where her owner had stood mere minutes before. She whined softly, before turning to face her surroundings. Of course, she knew why she was here. The real question was, why was she here? After all, she knew there were plenty of other Volpes Kabuto could have picked. Why her? Best make herself comfortable she supposed. She picked the piece of grass which looked the softest and settled down, ready to meet her doom

A different kind of fear was running through Diego's head, as he entered the garden. Normally, he was quite a confident Volpe-his unique colours and bright attitude made him pretty immune to nerves of any sort. Yet (for reasons unknown, even to him) he felt a faint fluttering in his stomach.
Glancing around, his mind began to think up bizarre situations which were neither helpful nor comforting. What if she didn't come? What if he went over to the wrong girl? What if she took one look at him, turned tail and ran?
Sighing, he took a deep breath and stepped forward. Bring on the girl

She was nervously clawing at a flower when he arrived. She knew it was him instantly-but seeing that it was one of her best friends she had been sent here with didn't exactly calm her fears.
Her initial feeling was dread. She supposed Kabuto thought she was doing her a favour, setting her up with Diego as opposed to a stranger. Of course, being expected to fall in love with your best friend wasn't exactly what Lucinda would consider a favour. She'd almost prefer if it was a stranger-at least she wouldn't be feeling as awkward.
Erm...Hi She signaled with an embarrassed nod of her head. Could anything be worse?

Surprise shadowed the face of the male Volpe. What was Lucinda doing here? Wasn't he supposed to be meeting someon-
The truth dawned on him and his eyes widened. Had Kabuto really set him up with her? Didn't she realize how awkward it would be?
Feeling oddly embarrassed, he decided it would only be polite to go and sit by her. He nodded hello and his feet shuffled subconsciously. He struggled to think of things to say. Surely this shouldn't be that hard? After all, she was his friend! Couldn't they just talk about normal stuff?

Panic flooded Lucinda's head. He looked really freaked-what should she do? Perhaps she should just turn around and leave...But she couldn't just leave him sitting here!
Her ears lowered in worry. Sorry She blushed slightly, and discarded the flower (which was now just a stem and a few shreds of green really) She suddenly had an urge and, without really thinking, she plucked a pink rose and began to gnaw on the petals

Diego frowned in confusion. Why was she apologizing? It wasn't her fault! Now the shock had worn off, he noticed how nervous she looked. Feeling quite sympathetic, he grinned.
Never seen you eat a flower before He yipped with a friendly tone. An odd statement, and about 0/10 for a chat-up line. Still, if it got her talking...

She dropped the flower at once, surprised when she realized what she was doing.
Sorry She apologized again, although quite what for she had no idea. A silent pause, and then There aren't any flowers on a beach anyway. Unless you count seaweed Which Lucinda most certainly didn't. Seaweed was icky, horrible stuff that tasted of sourness and sea. It got wrapped around your paws and tripped you up, and it would always get in the way of a good paddle

Very true He barked, eager that a conversation had started. He couldn't help but grin at her expression-clearly she shared his views on the foul seaside plant.
She had sparked his curiousity now, and he couldn't help picking a flower himself. Licking his lips, he teared off a couple of petals and attempted to swallow them. One got stuck in his throat and he found himself trying to free it, whilst also avoiding spitting the petals all over Lucinda.
When the flower was finally down his throat, he paused thoughtfully to absorb the taste. Pulling a face, he shook his head.
Not my thing He grinned, playfully wagging his tail

The Halloween Volpe found herself laughing as she watched Diego struggle with the flower. She relaxed slightly and her tail began to wag a little. She was glad she could rely on him to diffuse the situation. Perhaps if they could just be here as friends it wouldn't be so bad?
It's a beautiful place She commented, glancing around. Flowers and grass grew everywhere you looked, creating the rather lovely effect of a paradise

His own tail began to wag in response to hers. At last! She's cheered up He grinned, her laughter spurring him on.
Her statement surprised him. Glancing around, he looked at the surroundings properly for the first time.
You're right. It is beautiful He admired the flowerbeds, which might not taste particularly nice, but he had to admit looked good Fancy a walk? It would be nice to walk around whilst talking. Make a change from sitting at least

A walk? That sounded quite nice actually. Scrambling to her feet, she shook off the few strands of grass which were stuck to her coat.
Lead the way She nodded, flapping her wings to get a breeze going. It was already pretty cool-one of her favourite type of days in fact. The kind where it was sunny, but not boiling, and a refreshingly cool breeze ruffled her fur every now and again. In fact, it was the perfect kind of day to fall in love-not that that was going to happen with her and Diego! She was sure of that much at least

It seemed the male Volpe had different ideas to her. Starting his walk by picking a random direction, his mind began to wander as he walked
Perhaps this isn't so bad? He thought, glancing sideways at Lucinda She's actually quite pretty now that I think about it The sunlight was certainly complimenting her. Beams bounced off her ebony fur, giving it an almost blue gleam.
So... He blushed slightly as he realized how he'd been thinking about her Who were you expecting when you came here?

What an odd question to ask! The Volpe tilted her head to one side thoughtfully, wondering how to answer.
Not you, that's for sure She signaled lightly, making sure he realized she didn't mean it unkindly I guess I just expected a stranger. Some random Volpe who I could get to know. Kinda stupid huh? She was blushing now. Diego would think her so idiotic-some pathetic girl who just sat around and dreamed about a fairy-tale prince.
She plucked up the courage to glance at him sideways. His orange fur was even more obvious in the sunlight, uniquely bright. He had always been proud of his colour scheme, showing it off at every opportunity. Times like this she could see why

Not at all He argued I myself was expecting some gorgeous babe. You were a bit of a shock Realizing how that sounded, he quickly began to correct his mistake Not because you're ugly. Not that you are ugly! You're quite pretty actually...Not that I was looking at you or anything!
It was quite rare for Diego to find himself struggling with girls. He peered around frantically, looking for something to use as a distraction.
That lake looks nice He said quickly Let's go for a swim Before she could reply, he dashed off towards the water

Her tails flicked from side to side, and her face screwed up confusedly. What a weird way for him to act! She bounced after him, an amused grin playing on her lips.
What was all that about? She laughed, slightly out of breath by the time they reached the water. It wasn't exactly what you'd call a 'lake'. More like a pond. Glancing down at the water with a frown, she turned to Diego.
It doesn't look very clean That was the polite way to put it. Clearly this pool wasn't meant to be swam in
