Confusion. That was what was going through her mind that day. It was a lovely place...but just because somewhere was lovely didn't mean that you wanted to stay there forever. The prospect of never getting home was frightening, but it looked like it may soon become a reality for the Volpe that day. Lucinda lowered her head, glancing at the grass that tickled her feet. It seemed perfectly ordinary, if you ignored the fact it was blue. Blue grass was nothing compared to the weirdness of the sky. The whole atmosphere was dyed a brilliant green, a shade which was both pretty and slightly blinding. How exactly she had ended up in this 'backwards' place was a mystery. More so was how exactly she was going to get home. Padding forward, she flopped down on the grass with a sigh. A butterfly emerged from beneath her, fluttering out of the way and barely avoiding being squished. It was a bright yellow, the exact colour of margarine. "Just what I need," She spoke aloud, to no one in particular, "A Butter Butterfly. Maybe I'm going mad." Of course, talking to herself was only supporting her theory. A theory which only became more likely with every passing minute

"If you're going mad than I best believe I'm going mad as well," the Royal volpe said as she emerged from the brown bushes with green berries and shook herself. "Unless, of course, I'm just a manifest of your mind. Then you are truly speaking to yourself."She sat down and preened one of her tails, trying to get the purple mud out from it. She had just traveled through the woods after waking up next to a silver lake. It was pretty, but she hadn't dared try to taste the strange colored water, despite her thirst. In fact she had been so distracted by her selfishness that she hadn't even noticed the other strange colors of the forest until she slipped down a small hill and landed in a giant pool of mud. After getting the majority of the muck off she heard another voice and decided to follow it, hoping the source of the noise would know where she was. Apparently that wasn't the case. "You're the first living thing I've seen," Tranquility told her, sneezing as she got mud in her nose. "What's your name?"

A voice startled her, causing her to jump to her feet. She blushed, feeling foolish when she realized it was just another Volpe. Fortunately, she looked quite friendly. Seeing that she was Royal, Lucinda thought it best to be polite just in case. She was always polite anyway, but now she would be sure to be extra polite.
"Urm, hello," She stuttered slightly, her shy side shining through. She sat down again, curling her tail round her body. She watched as the Volpe cleaned some kind of substance from her fur. It looked vaguely like mud, but was an odd purple colour.
"I'm Lucinda," She answered her question, "I saw a butterfly before, but you're the first Volpe I've seen. Assuming I haven't imagined you," She smiled, relaxing a little, "What's your name?" As she finished, her gaze fell upon some leaves that were falling in the breeze. It looked a bit like a packet of Skittles being tipped over-reds, blues and yellows scattered effortlessly in the wind, bright and colourful

"Well, as far as I can tell there aren't even insects inside the forest," the Royal said, sweeping her muzzle towards the woods as if the other Volpe didn't know the definition of her vocabulary. "My name?" she splayed her toes to get the mud out from between them. "Tranquility," her voice was muffled by her task, "I'm Tranquility. But you can call me Quil- that's what my brother does. Speaking of which..." she lifted her head, suddenly alarmed. "I was with him when I fell asleep, and he wasn't here with me when I woke up..." Her nose twitched in concern.
Put together, the siblings were impossible. Always cracking jokes and doing whatever they could to annoy the other one. But when separated, they were almost more annoying with their constant concern for each other. Tranquility's concern was rooted from her knowledge of Jexus' tendency to be careless and foolish in dangerous situations. Jex, however, mainly feared for Quil's habit of casually tossed remarks that made one quite offended sometimes. She had quite a few enemies because of it.

So this Volpe had no idea how she had arrived either? Very interesting...Tranquility's story reminded her instantly of a book her owner had once read her. As a pup, Lucinda enjoyed being read to-even if she didn't understand half the time what the books were actually trying to say.
"Strange..." She commented, "I'm not sure how I got here either. I was just kinda...walking aimlessly, and when I looked up I was here." Lucinda supposed it was her fault really. It was terribly careless to carry on walking when you had no idea where you were.
"Do you think your brother might be here too?" She had no siblings herself (at least, none she knew of) and brother/sister relationships always fascinated her. Some siblings seemed to be awfully close, the best of friends, while others almost detested each other. She wasn't sure she would want a brother anyway-what if all he did was pick on her and call her names?

Tranquility looked around at the meadow, pawing lightly at the blue grass, before moving closer to Lucinda. "I don't know. We did not fall asleep here. He might still be where we were before."
She jumped as a letter B with wings stung her paw and she flicked it off quickly with one of her tails, then licked the sting unhappily. "I don't like this place," she muttered. "It's so strange." She shook her fur and twitched an ear, surveying the misty shadows of mountains in the distance.
She looked back at Lucinda. "I think our best bet on finding my brother is to head back into the woods. Once we find him we can figure out how to get out of here..."

That made sense. Agreeing to her plan with a nod, Lucinda turned to look at the woods. They looked very ominous, with the brown bushes and purple mud giving off a foreboding message. Suddenly the idea of trekking through the forest didn't seem so great...
She gave a worried glance as she saw the 'B' sting Tranquility's paw. "Are you okay?" She blinked-a strange insect sting could never be a good sign. Now they had established there was some life in this world, Lucinda's imagination had started to create a manner of terrible creatures that could be lurking around every corner.
"Definitely strange here," She sighed, blue grass being trampled beneath her restless feet, "I sure hope your brother can help us. If we find him." She wanted to add 'If we survive', but that was probably far too morbid and not a pleasant thing to think

"I'm fine." Quil shook her paw lightly then eyed the forest. Like Lucinda, the idea of going back in there was a bit reluctant. "I doubt Jex can do much to help, except get in the way," she sighed. For all she knew, he was having a blast in this strange place. He was probably wandering around discovering all sorts of things that would entertain him for a while before he even thought to look for his sister.
Tranquility sighed, shook out her fur, and started the trek back into the woods, eyes and ears perked for anything that was potentially dangerous.

Letting Tranquility go first-that seemed like the perfect plan to Lucinda. She began to trot behind the Volpe, happy to be following rather than leading. She walked along in silence for a while, her mind a whir and her eyes on the lookout for anything the slightest bit dangerous.
"So...whats your brother like?" She had several reasons for asking this question. First, she had wanted to break the silence, which only made the disturbing landscape all the more daunting. Secondly, it felt like something she should ask in order to be polite. And thirdly, she was quite curious about the Volpe she might be about to meet.

Tranquility snorted slightly. "Jex? He's stupid, ignorant, foolish, oblivious to everything..." she paused to sigh, "but he's kind. And funny. And sometimes shows a bit of intelligence." She shook her head. She could go on for hours about Jexus' bad sides, but she figured she shouldn't scare Lucinda with his weirdness. Truthfully, though, she was sure the male had been dropped on his head as a pup.
She came to the mud pile she had fallen into before. She sniffed the purple goop, then walked tentatively around it and up the hill.
"What about you?" she asked as she started up the slope. "Any siblings or other kin?" She wasn't sure whether she cared or not, but like Lucinda she found the silence intimidating and found conversation to be relaxing.

The description of Jex fascinated her. It seemed to combine all her thoughts about sibling relationships-it was rather hard to tell whether Quil was fond of Jex or not. She guessed that people just liked to complain about their siblings, but they did love them deep down.
"Me? No, I don't have any brothers or sisters. I don't have any family really-well, except for my pack. Diego's the closest I have to family right now-although he's not like a brother." She supposed she considered her pack her family-although some members still weren't keen on her.
Noting the mud on the ground, she too bent down to sniff it. Wanting to know what it felt like, she cautiously dipped a paw in. Yuck. Wiping it quickly on the grass, she dashed to keep up with Tranquility

Tranquility wasn't quite sure her way from here, as she hadn't been really paying attention the first time she traversed this path. Nonetheless she followed as best she could, trying to follow her own scent. This was strangely difficult- her scent, which should have been very prominent, was already faded as though it had been sitting for several weeks. But she didn't want to point this out to Lucinda. Perhaps it meant nothing.
"A pack? I have one of those... I suppose. We never see each other much. I mostly spend time with my brother, off somewhere. I hardly even know their names." Quil sighed and shook her head, before narrowing her eyes and peering around, trying to remember where this was. She didn't remember passing through here. It had suddenly grown darker, the foliage denser, and the grass more moss-like. She hesitated, realizing her scent had vanished. She tried to see whether she could scent Jexus or not, but his smell was no where within distance. Unhappily she looked to Lucinda, trying to decide whether to continue on or turn back.

She couldn't help noticing a brief hesitation on Quil's part. What was up? Lucinda felt her worries increase slightly. Being in a strange place was always worrying, but when she worried Lucinda had a tendency to get a bit hysterical sometimes. Any slight change only increased her growing doubt.
Quil's statement about her pack was a welcome distraction. Lucinda couldn't help but be stunned into shock. "Really?" She exclaimed in surprise, "You barely know your pack?" She was trying her hardest not to sound rude, but it was difficult for her not to be shocked. Back at her home, the pack was everything. She couldn't imagine anything different.
The distraction couldn't last forever. Lucinda soon realized that the scent they had been following must've stopped. Her tails wagging nervously, she guessed she had to make a decision.
"Erm..." Her foot pawed at the moss thoughtfully, "Maybe we should continue? Not much sense in going back." She tried to disguise the fact that she wasn't sure how to go back anyway
