(Red Volpes)
Breed: Normal
Rarity: 0 (on a scale from 0-10, 0 being most common)
Height: 2' 5"
Weight: 50 - 80 lbs
Natural Habitat: Generally the low land forests with stable temperatures at around 78 degrees. Would prefer a colder environment then a warmer one, but they have great tolerance to nearly any living condition, adapting very well.
Natural behavior: Normal Volpes are one of the more docile of the Volpes, and the most accepting. They live in usually very large packs of different breeds of Volpes, but treat all pack members the same. This accepting of others makes them rather nice as pets. Even wild volpes, once familiarized, will be accepting and loving. Just takes time.
This ability gives them large packs, with a lot of mouths to feed. They take down small prey, like rabbits or birds. If the entire gang hunts, larger prey animals can be taken down, like deer, which will feed most of the group. Their wings are too small for flying, but they can hover and glide for short periods of time, which is a method often used when hunting. Hovering softly above the ground makes them silent stalkers. This in combination with night makes detecting them tricky.
These volpes can communicate with barks, growls, howls, and short yips, also with a 'meow'ish sound (sounds like 'mmerrrow'). Barks and yips are generally hunting signals. Barking to form specific positions and yips when a kill is made. Howling is rare to hear from these vulpine creatures, serving as an emergency call. The 'meow' is to show pleasure, often heard with pet and captive volpes.
These volpes also have a very sensitive muzzle. Due to the lack of whiskers, the muzzles of the volpes have changed to be very sensitive. Their tongues have information gathering taste buds, so licking is seen when two volpes meet. Nuzzling plus licking is a volpe's way of gathering information, like how a dog sniff another's rump.
Eating Preferences: Normal Volpes are omnivores. They eat mainly meat, fish and chicken being favorites. When meat supply is low, berries, grasses and other plants are eaten. And in houses as pets, these Volpes would even change their diet for dog or cat food, over time, at least. They'll scavenge what's available to them, taking advantage of kills from other packs even. They won't kill other volpes though, but will assert dominance on rivaling packs for food.
General care: Its quite easy to care for a Normal Volpe in a household. Its like taking care of a dog. Food and water three or so times a day and be sure to let them outside often, everyday if you can. They are best for outdoors living, still with wild blood lingering in them. Room to play is a need, as when volpes get bored or have too much energy, they won't hesitate to chew up the sofa..
