Having finished with her feathers, Gisele began to pick at her talons in a bored manner. They really were getting too long...she should grind them down on a tree, file them back to a decent length.
So fascinated by her claws as she was, she only caught the last sentence Idget said. A lonely childhood? Maybe that's why he never shut up now. She felt slightly sorry for him though. Why did he have to look so innocent? She felt an odd urge to protect him-he was far too sweet to survive in the real world.
Tobias is my twin She explained. It bored her to talk about her brother, but she supposed if she was going to get to know this Volpe she should share family history. Maybe she should leave her paw prints as well, just in case I suppose he was quite fun when we were fledglings. I don't really see much of him anymore. He's too quiet, and besides, we're in different packs She had left her pack when she grew up, not liking the closeness of it all. She much preferred being in the mountains-up high, and away from the world. Her life was much more private now

A twin? Now twins were cool! Secretly, Idget had always longed for a twin. Imagine how fun it would be to have someone who knew that well, a friend for life. He'd been thrilled when Sandy had had triplets. None of them would ever be truly alone, not when they had each other.
Her next statement shocked him. You left your original pack? Idget loved his pack. It was his life! However, he supposed that if he had been placed in a different pack he might have left it. Deciding it wasn't best to judge, Idget switched the subject back to family.
It must have been cool to have a twin. My pups are all triplets, although they aren't identical He hesitated after revealing this fact, wondering how she would take it. Would she be surprised or shocked that he already had kids?

Her head snapped up at that. He had kids? Not just one either, but three? Gisele was definitely surprised. Not that there was anything wrong with him having kids. If anything, it proved he would be a good father (Of course, she wasn't planning to have kids with him. No way) But she was still shocked. He didn't seem old enough to have kids, let alone know how to look after them.
You have pups? Her red eyes blinked brightly, large with surprise. Once she had gotten over this fact, she decided it was only fair she was polite. After all, he had been nice enough to ask about her family. She should return the favour.
What...what are their names? She asked hesitantly, not sure if this was the right question to pick. She wasn't used to asking others about themselves

He could see she was surprised. Fortunately, it didn't seem to bother her that much. At least, she hadn't stormed away from him.
It was easy to answer her question. Idget could talk for days about his kids when prompted to. There wasn't a single member of his pack who didn't know who they were, and pretty much every other fact about them.
I have two girls and a boy. The boy's called Cadet, and one of the girls is called Scooti. The other girl refuses to be named. Says she wants to choose it herself He grinned at this. Both his daughters were very independent, but Scooti tended to be more cheerful than the other

This male must be a very laid-back father if he was willing to let his pup choose her own name. Gisele had always thought she would like to have pups someday, but when it came to names things were a little sketchy. Of course, her children were going to be amazing, so they needed amazing names. She quite fancied names from mythology-something unique and pretty-sounding.
Was it hard choosing their names? She wondered out loud I've never thought I'd make much of a mother. I'd love pups, but I don't think I could look after them properly. Too much work While this might have come across as rude or lazy, Gisele was just being honest. She didn't think she had the dedication to look after something for the rest of it's life

Sort of. In a way I suppose. Their mother came up with them, so I just agreed Idget didn't think he had the brain power to come up with names. It was a lot of pressure if you thought about it. Pups would live with the name for the rest of their life, so it would have to be a good one.
He was surprised by her honesty. He tilted his head, thinking about it. I'm sure you'd make a good mother He persisted, although he wasn't sure he believed that. Mind you, he barely knew her. She did seem mostly self-absorbed, but she had a considerate side. Why else would she care about his cut? You just need to trust yourself Okay, it was rather cheesy. Still, he meant it in good faith

She could see that the Panda would just agree to whatever anyone else said. He didn't seem very assertive, and even if he were he seemed too bothered about others to demand he got his way. In fact, in that aspect he was entirely the opposite of Gisele. She always had to get her way. She demanded perfection, and nothing less was acceptable.
Thank you She replied softly, touched by his compliment. He was awfully sweet...Kinda cute too, in a fuzzy, pudgy way. But he wasn't her handsome stranger, and Gisele was still too proud to settle for anything less.
So, whereabouts do you live? She wanted to get the subject away from kids. Much safer that way

For a brief second, Idget thought he saw the Gryphon blush. Of course, it was hard to tell because of her feathers. They were a lovely shade of brown, dotted with interesting black stripes. Really, it wasn't too hard to see why she was as proud as she was. Gryphons on a whole were rather rare, and she was pretty magnificent.
I live with my pack. Our territory is sort of a giant meadow He was forbidden, of course, to give away any details that might point out it's location. No harm in boasting about its loveliness though It's a really gorgeous place actually. Like this, but better somehow. There's hundreds of flowers and such. It's so pretty

It sounds nice Gisele muttered dreamily. This place was nice too, so pretty and quite warm. She loved her home with all her heart, but sometimes she wished the mountains were a bit prettier. There was no grass for starters, and the only flowers weren't exactly colourful.
My pack lives up on the mountains. It's pretty nice too, but slightly chilly One of the reasons her feathers were always so thick. She needed them for warmth during the chilly climate in winter.
Actually, she was pretty hot here. It wasn't exactly unpleasant yet, but she was getting a bit bothered. If she spent much longer here, she was bound to start sweating. She started to fidget, trying to cool herself down

The Panda tilted his head, trying to imagine what it would be like to live in the mountains. It didn't sound that appealing to him really. To be so high up...he'd be afraid to fall. It would be quite dull, and dangerous, just grey rock everywhere. Not to mention, his thin pelt wouldn't be much use. He preferred it when places were warm.
Speaking of warmth, Gisele looked quite uncomfortable now. Would you like to move into the shade? He suggested, thinking of her. Would shade be cool enough? Probably not. He had another idea though...
Or we could try and find some water. There's bound to be some here somewhere

Water! That would be perfect. The Gryphon loved water. It was clear, cool stuff that felt good on your feathers. She thought that things that came from underwater were often the most beautiful kinds of creatures. Besides, she could check out her reflection in the surface while she cooled off.
It would be great if we could find water She was so grateful for his suggestion that she actually smiled at him, a proper sincere smile. Getting to her feet, she fluffed out her feathers and stretched her legs. He looked shorter than ever now she was stood, but it didn't really bother her. She was too busy focused on the thought of finding a cool lake

He was pleased, if not slightly scared by her smile. It was interesting to see a creature with a beak smile-weird to see no teeth poking out behind the golden lips. Still, he grinned back, glad of her praise. Idget loved it when others were happy.
Alright Getting to his feet, he began to trot through the grass once more. This time his wanderings had a goal, and his eyes remained focused on finding a lake (This in itself was a miracle. Idget had never been able to focus on one thing for more than 5 minutes before)
Eventually he spotted a small pond, not really big enough to be called a lake, but big enough. Here we are! He called back to Gisele, his tail wagging. Jumping over a small log in the way, he strolled over to the water's edge and began to lick up the water. He was quite thirsty really, and the water looked so fresh and clean. Better to drink the water before you took the bath

The female let out a shriek of delight when she saw the water. Eagerly, she began to race towards it, longing to clean off some of her feathers and have a cool drink. Unfortunately, some of her apparent clumsiness was still lurking around. She neglected to notice the log that Idget had hopped over.
Ahhh! Gisele squawked loudly as she tripped, tumbling down the small hill and straight into the water. She hit the surface hard before sinking under, the water clogging her feathers. Gasping, she tried to paddle upwards. Thank goodness the water was shallow-her bird-like claws weren't built for swimming

Shock filled the Panda. It was quite the sight to see the large avian go tumbling down into the deep. Large droplets of water sprung up, splattering down on his fur and the grass around him. Idget stood stunned for a few minutes, before quickly racing over to the edge of the water.
Are you okay? He stared down at the bedraggled Gryphon, concern in his eyes. Her light feathers were now dark with damp, and her previously perfectly curled 'hair' was now a tangled mess. She looked utterly miserable as she clambered out of the water, shaking to try and dry off some of her feathers. Her eyes were wide with shock, and her beak opened as she went to speak...
And burst out laughing instead

She couldn't believe it! Here she was, in a public place with a near-stranger, soaking wet and all she could do was laugh! She wondered for a brief moment if she was going mad, but then she dismissed the idea. Truth was, it had actually been rather fun (and terrifying) to go hurtling down the hill into a pond of water. She had cooled down now at least, and though her feathers were soaking they were actually more comfortable than before.
Turning round, she saw the bemused expression of the Volpe. Poor thing-he looked amused, confused and concerned all at once. His comment was sweet-in fact, pretty much all of his behavior was sweet. Although she hated to admit it, she was kind of growing fond of his sweetness. He was annoying adorable, like a puppy you wanted to hug.
I'm fine She smiled, shaking herself off. At this news, Idget instantly broke into a smile, happy that she was okay. Touched by his smile, Gisele continued grinning.
Thanks for asking She replied, shaking her tail. A mischievous thought entered her brain. Acting innocent, she continued to crawl back up the hill until she was standing next to Idget again. With a sudden caw of joy, she pushed the Volpe and watched as he went rolling down the hill, hitting the water with a huge SPLASH!
Fortunately, when he emerged there was a huge grin across his face. He shook himself fiercely, water droplets scattering everywhere. Barking happily, he began to run at the Gryphon. Despite herself, she found herself running away, laughing loudly. Yes, it was embarrassing. Yes, it wasn't particularly romantic. But it was fun
