There! She had glimpsed a flash of white out of place in this dark place. She knew it hadent been a fish becouse it was the wrong shape and didient glimmer. Hope falerd into her and she swam tewards where she had seen it, using her wings to make her go even faster in teh water. She hadent swam many times before but she wasnt bad at it. Suddenly she bumped into something. In a flash she grabbed it in her beak. She coudl tell by its fluffyness that it was the volpe.

Just as he thought it was all over he felt a sharp pain near the end of his tail. He had no idea what it was but at least it proved to him that he was still alive... for now. Suddenly he felt a pull on his tail, it hurt horribly but he just dident have the energy to do anything about it so he just went limp while he was dragged through the water. Suddenly he glimpsed light above him and then his head broke the surface and he despratly gasped in a lungfall of air.

Oh, so it was the tail she had hold of then. She swam repidly upwards and when she borke the surface of the water, she put her head back under to nudge the volpe dogs head above the water as well. To her intese relief she heard a gasp as he drew oxygen back into his lungs. Then he started coughing. Sge scooped him onto her back and swam as quickly as she coudl to the near by lack shore as she could with her wings trapped against her back with a dead waight on top of them

As soon as he gasped in the air, the water in his lungs decided that it was the best time to make a bid for freedom and he started to retch and cough despratly. He wasnt aware at all of what was going on around him, apart from the fact that he was magicly moving across the surface of the water tewards the bank. All that mattered to him was that he got rid of all the water in his lungs as soon ad possible. Chocking it all up really wasnt much fun though.

Urgh, he was getting spit and lake water all down her back. Sukai hated being dirty. It looked as though she must be really really dirty now.
After what seemed like an age, she gave one last push with her miss matched paws and manged to get him to roll off her back and onto solid ground. And then after a bit of of scrabbling she was up to, her wings hanging down on either side of her body, her legs splaid slightly and her head hanging as she panted to get her breath back. Wow saving a life really took it out of you...

His lungs and throut burned with all the retching but he was starting to feel better now, more like a volpe and less like a drowned rat. When he finally finsihed coughing up all the water in his lungs he slumped to the ground. Wait a minute...ground! He was on dry ground. He opened his eyes and peared down, just to ake sure that he was really safely on the ground. What had happened to him anyway? One minute he was up high, the next drowning. Weird...

After a while she manged to get her panting under control. She looked up to see that the dog volpe seemed to be recovering now. He was certainly bringing up less water then before and his mad coughing and subsided to just a few small ones. She saw him look down at the ground and the startled look on his face made her chuckle slightly. He really didi look funney, especially now his white coat was all covered in water, a murky gray colour and coverd in pond weed. Though to tell the truth she probably didient look much better herself.

Suddenly he heard a noise, like a sort of chirriping that could be called laughter. He looked up and froze, his eyes wide. It was the monster! But the thing was, the pond water had shocked the last of the rose scent out os his system and he could now see that it wasnt a terrifing monster, it was a griffen volpe! It was so obvious to him now. He felt like such an idiot. Why hadent he seen what it was before? Though he had never actually met a griffen volpe before he had heard a lot about them.

He chuckle faded away whne he looked up at her with a look of horrer all over his furry face. She was just about to get angry when she saw the look fade to be replaced with one of embarresment. Ignoring his embarresment she asked him, "Are you OK? That was quite an adventure you seemed to be having there. And you didi swallow a lot of pond water..." He tone was clipped and it was impossibel to miss the sturness and disaprovel in it.

He felt so ashamed and stupid. He had been running, screaming from some poor volpe. What an idiot he was! When the griffen spoke (and he then realised it was a female) he hung his head in shame. "Im alright." He mumbled back. "Im so sorry. I thought you where a monster."
As soon as he said that he realised it was an incredibly stupid thing to say. It made him sound as though he thought her to be soem sort of ugly creature. He just kept on digging himself in deeper and deeper dident he?

For a secound she seemed not to know what to say but then she let out another of her chirruping laughs. "So thats why you ran away so fast!" She laughed again. That helped explain things. She didient know why he had actually thought her a monster to start with though.
A sudden worry came over and she asked weakly, "Do I really look that scary?"

Her laugh was such a pretty sound...not the sound of a monster at all. He felt even more ashamed at her worried, aprehansive tones when she asked if she was that scary. She sounded so unsure of herslef and shy.
Before he could think it through he found hismlef saying, "No, not at all, your much too pretty to be a monster". He couldent believe he had blurted that out! What was wrong with him today? But now he said it, he found it to be true. Despite the dripping, pond weed covered feathers, she was looked deadly, elegent and beautiful.

She peared up through the feathers plastered to her head shyly. "You, you think so?" She said tentivly. Chances wherre he was joking, or lieing of something... But wouldent it be nice if he was telling the truth? Only her father and mother had ever called her pretty and they didient rteally count as they would just say that, wouldent thay?

He could see that she was even more nurvous then ever and replied, just as shyly has she had asked the question "Yes" It was barely audable and he felt terribly embarrassed at saying it but it was true. Her star scattered blue pelt and glossy (if very soggy) feathers where beautiful. He felt like amere mortal standing nest to tis magnificent goddess of a volpe. But how could they both be called 'volpe' when he was so pethatic coompared to her?

She would have smiled if she could but it wasnt evactly easy to smile with a beak. Now she took the time to look at him. Despite the discolouring she could tell that his fur was usually bright white. His wings, though not very big were much bigger then normal dog volpes. That was interesting. She liked big wings. And where they tipped in rainbow? It was hard to tell under all that mud.
