Delilah was confused. He was always the one to be cast aside because he didn't work hard enough, or look intimidating enough. Why was this female dismissing herself so thoughly from their pups' lives? It was then that Delilah realized that he was indeed going to breed with Pixie, and not just for the army, or even for himself, but for her.
He didn't love her, which was likely better, as she already had a mate, but he liked the kindness she showed towards him, and the things she was willing to give up in order to make him happy. The breeding wouldn't happen right now though, oh no, he wanted to get to know her better first.
"Our pups." Was all he said after all this thinking. "You will be just as much a part of them as I will be." As an after though, he added, likely more, I have no idea how to raise pups."

Pixie's little wings fluttered in joy. She was no longer afriad of Delilah, and in some way that she couldn't quite comprehend, she seemed to have broken through that wall that he kept around himself at all times. "Of course." She said, grinning. "If that is what you want Delilah."
Now the pictures that her mind conjured up weren't of watching her pups grow up with Delilah, but of Delilah and her together, raising them. She didn't think of what conflicts this may cause with Dragon, and at that precise moment, she likely wouldn't have cared.
"So tell me a bit more about yourself Delilah." She said and gave him another lick on the ears. "I want to know what the father of our pups is really like."

Delilah gave a small howl of joy. All his life he had wanted others to know what he was truly like, but he kept it hidden away, so the others wouldn't laugh at him or tell him he should be focasing only on the army.
"Well," He began, sitting down next to her, close enough for their fur to touch. "I like to be alone mostly, as you likely already know." He gave a thoughtful pause, gathering his thoughts, and continued on. "I think it's more that I don't like how they treat me than that I don't like them. I can get upset quite easily, as you saw earlier, and I really am sorry for that."
He fell silent, wondering if he had given away too much of his personality. He had let himself look weak in front of Pixie. That was something that he didn't do.

Pixie listened with wide eyes and open ears, drinking in every word that Delilah said. She was a bit surprised when he mentioned the... mixup, earlier, and even more so when he said that he was sorry for it. Not really having anything to say that wouldn't upset him, she just huddled closer to him, and let his warm fur protect her from the snow that was beginning to fall.
"I think that Fluffy and Sunray made a good choise." She said finally.

Delilah had to think about that for awhile. There couldn't be two more opposite Volpes. One kind and caring for everything and everyone, and then him, the rebel. His motto was if you don't care about me, than I sure as heck don't care about you. That was what he had lived by his whole life, but had he gotten it wrong?
Sunray hadn't seemed to care about him, but why match him up with Pixie if he didn't? Perhaps everyone cared deep down inside, and he just wasn't lookng hard enough? It confused him, but also made him feel oddly happy.
"I think they did too." He decided, and leaned into her.

Pixie began grooming him, letting out a tiny meow of contentment every so often. Unlike the other K9s that she had been around, his fur was matted and course, as though no one groomed him. She felt a small pity for him, but surpressed it before he could see it in her eyes. She knew that he could take care of himself.
It was odd to Pixie, very odd indeed, to be going through the rituals before mating with Delilah. The thought that Dragon would be waiting back home after it was over comforted her though, and she continued to groom, her licks slowly turning to careeses.

Delilah began to groom Pixie as well, and though the task was new to him, and he was likely a bit more rough with his tounge than he intended, it was still oddly soothing to him. He had always been an outcast, right from birth when his parents had exclaimed excitedly over the two females they had had, making the same mistake as Pixie had and not checking for the extra tail.
He suddenly wished that Pixie was in his battalion. Not as a mate, for he had no wish to steel her from Dragon, but as a friend, someone who he could tell his problems to. Of course, he had never activly looked for anyone to share this weaker side of himslf with. Maybe, just maybe there was someone in his own battalion that he could be friends with, or maybe even mates.
Of course, this likely wasn't quite the thing to be thinking about when getting ready to mate with another Volpe, and he banished the thought from his mind and focased on inhaling Pixie's light scent, and on how soft and gentle Pixie's licks seemed on his neglected coat.

Pixie wasn't used to the rough licks of Delilah, but she realized almost instently that he wasn't used to grooming someone. Maybe this was even his first time. She made herself not wince when his tounge pulled a bit too hard at a knot in her fur, or even when his teeth accidentaly brushed her.
After awhile she pulled away, her orange eyes bright with the thought of bringing new life into this world. "I'm glad I got through to you." She said softly. "Delilah, you think that the world seeks to keep you out, but the truth is that you do, and they're just too afriad to come in."

Delilah pulled away too, and his eyes were gleaming too, but with tears of happiness. He had known that something hadn't seemed quite right about the other Volpes' treatment of him, but he had never been able to put his paw on it, until now. "Thank you Pixie." He whispered softly. "For allowing me into your life." I may lock myself inside a brick wall, but its because I'm too afraid to come out. You were patient and kind to me, and I will never forget that."
As he finally figured this out about himself, another thing came to his mind. A thing that shocked him as he realized it. "Pixie." He said softly. "I think I'm ready now, to be the father of our pups."

Pixie smiled again and got up. "Follow me then." She said, checking to make sure that Delilah was doing just that. The two Volpes padded along side by side, Delilah still a tiny bit nervous about what he was going to do, but Pixie calm, her little wings fluttering every so often in pure joy at what she had accomplished that day, what they had oth accomplished that day, for Delilah had finally found the strenth to take down the wall around him, even if only for one day.
